Indianapolis residents have shut down a proposed Google data center. The tech giant wanted to build a massive 500 acre facility, but people got organized and stopped them. The $1 billion data center would've used one million gallons of water a day.

That datacenter and its corollary businesses could have provided tens of thousands of organically grown, high tech, great paying, future proof jobs, and led to the education of an equal number of young Hoosiers to fill them. Those young Hoosiers would have been able to learn the world class expertise from the coasts, and could have started their own companies in the Midwest, filled with Midwestern values and missions. Now, because of misperceived evils from Communist propaganda, Hoosiers will miss out on all the above.

The water usage claims of datacenters is blatantly false/misleading. There are plenty of things to criticize data centers for (brownouts, strain on local power grids, etc) but water usage is the worst thing to attack them on.

1.5 Olympic swimming pools of water evaporated and recycled a day vs 10,000 jobs. Wow, you are retards.

Residents remain cautiously optimistic, knowing the fight is far from over. Google can re-file their petition in 3 months — the same playbook a secretive tech company in St Charles, Missouri used when they pulled their data center application after widespread public outrage — in hopes of returning when community opposition wanes.

Altman said A LOT OF THE WORLD will be covered in data centers over time, and he said it so casually, like it was nothing bc humans are nothing, the earth is only a resource to be plundered to these psychopaths. All these tech fascists are the same & they need to be stopped.

What happens to the water after it is used? Trying to understand the concern

This smug David-vs-Goliath attitude needs to stop. If your criterion for being a hero is stopping everything "giant" in the world, you're passing by "giant" value and "giant" opportunities. By the way, this is what 1 million gallons of water looks like. The scope-insensitivity is crazy with these people.

They're trying to put a data center on 1000 acres of farmland in my small MI township. There was a Twsp Board meeting on Tuesday night that had to be moved to the High School because over 1000 people showed up. They wanted to change the zoning to tech. They voted it down. NO.

"The $1 billion data center would've used one million gallons of water a day." A working farm on the same acreage would use more than a million gallons per day AND most of that water would be lost, not recaptured for treatment.

This AI SCAM that's created a bubble in the stock market does NOTHING FOR THE AVERAGE AMERICANS...NOTHING. What it will do is: 1. Double your electric bill in 4 years. 2. Suck up 20% of all available drinkable water in America. 3. Raise your water rates 300%. 4. Cause noise and radiation pollution. 5. Open carbon fuel coal plants. 6. Cause you to lose your job. 7. Will require at least 50 nuclear power plants in 5 years. 8. End wind and solar energy. That's a good thing. 9. Have zero benefits on your daily life. No robots, no cheap food, no cheap electronics, no cheap clothes...they'll still charge outrageous prices & profits. 10. Stock market bubble collapse. 11. Violate all copyright laws. 12. Violate all patent laws. 13. Enable fraudsters & thieves to steal more often & larger amounts. AI & AGI = Y2K = waste of money = waste of resources.

We should be embracing the future not stopping it. Water usage isnt a big deal for these. And for power we should just be embracing more solar and nuclear.

They’re going to try to put up a data center in Monrovia, IN next. This is a suburb of Indianapolis. According to reporting, the city is supportive but the residents are pissed & strongly opposed. Recommend MPU reach out to townspeople to discuss.
