On August 20, during Karmelo Anthony’s hearing for a new trial, former defense attorneys described information involving Austin Metcalf and his twin brother, Hunter, that was not presented to the original jury. The defense referenced a graffiti case involving Austin, Hunter, and a third boy. The safety wing would have to flip up and over the bolt — directly into the scope. For this rifle to actually fire with the current scope setup, it would need an aftermarket low-profile safety that clears the optic. So the question is simple: Looking at these photos the prosecution just presented… does this rifle still have the original military wing safety, or has it been modified with a low-profile aftermarket safety? If it still has the original safety, this gun — as configured — could not have been fired with that scope in place. This is a major problem for the prosecution’s case.
