you can kill the man, but not the idea

Yes, but the project is abandoned, and was considered not that great

@QuadBillionaire It also ran on a disk image mounted as a loopback device whereas this lives on its own partition.

@QuadBillionaire yes

Not finished and unusable yet, but here it is:

I dunno about a French exe

Install-french-linux.exe

@_machi47 to remove french linux i would suggest "sudo rm -rf", thank me later.

@tpm_28 @_machi47 Yeah french causes problems in Linux, most pros recommend removing French. sudo rm -fr /home

@0xt0bi03 @tpm_28 thank you

Yes

lo trataron de loco

I can foresee a high percentage of issues in this repo, most will be unrelated to the actual project.

yes

installing linux with an exe is cursed and super suspicious... would not trust personally

You don't trust it because you don't yet have the code you can audit, even though I admit it won't be the best code in the world

fair, if it was oss and had a fair amount of eyes on it, i'd be willing to try it. linux on an exe is still just such an odd concept though...

Actually, it's an executable that launches a live ISO which automatically installs Mint

Close enough Welcome back wubi!

A virus that install Linux to would be malware?

@ex0thick lol

Like lowk why this isn't the norm? Why do I need a USB stick to install a operating system now? Is there any pros or cons when I install an OS via exe file?

I’m a developer from Israel and this is my product

????? Proof? me I can prove that I contributed to a project abandoned by its creator (a friend), created during a company internship...a project that doesn't work from the start

@d33pBleu71 They're making a joke about Israel's foreign intelligence (Mossad) and how they would make a product like this that comes with spyware. Not necessarily against you or trying to claim you work.

@d33pBleu71 Ah, I'm an idiot, thank you, sorry... I'm really bad at understanding this kind of thing. thank you

*on a VM. Does this work on bare metal?

Yes

I thought the reason for bootable media was to avoid resizing the disk while the operating system is still using it. has something made this safe now?

If this is your project, can you add CachyOS? 🥺

Yes is my project (initially started by @MopigamesYT )

@Blockster274 @MopigamesYT Is this it?

@Blockster274 @MopigamesYT

@Blockster274 @MopigamesYT Oh, I see. Do you have your own repo? Would love to follow it

@Blockster274 @MopigamesYT Not yet ...

That later led to this:

Reminds me of that post about someone hating github because there was code but no exe

When do you think you’ll publish this app?

Where did you get this? Libertix on search seems to be its own OS, so it's poisoning the results, but this isn't it because you're obviously installing Mint Cinnamon.

The name will change, and I'm the one who coded it (not yet published and finished) so it's normal that you don't find anything

Good to know! I'll be on the lookout. Accessibility is always welcome.

Open source? Would be very cool to have this project be maintained for years to come. I think it'll help make Linux adoption chances stronger, too.

But it's not finished yet and not yet published... but it's coming

Good to know! Will keep an eye open.

This might actually get me to install linux because im too lazy to buy a usb drive just to do this(i always lose them or they go bad)

YOU MADE THIS? Damn awesome stuff

:)

Wubi , Is that you?

sudo apt install linux-mint ig

This is so cool

We plan to hire @tpm_28 this summer to finish this linuxgate aka Libertix Project to push linux on Millions of W10 PCs . We launch a Funding Camping to gather 3000 € for this project with release in sept2026 Please contribute 🐧

so what if someone made a virus that changes yo shit to linux?

holy peak this may actually be useful for school computers

I remember doing this in 2006

nice proxmox

thanks

Neat! I made a PoC of a similar process at work. Though it was meant to overwrite and destroy the original Windows os. Injects grub into the efi directory and creates a fat32 part to store the target Linux iso that then auto installs on next boot
