Please, do not forget that Ukraine merits it because it has paid more than any other European country for its right to be free, independent, and European. This right is not only for Ukraine. If romanian democracy falls, the entire world democratic system is at risk. Romania is part of EU, NATO and is one of the most important allies of the US in the Eastern Europe. If international community just stays indiferrent and enjoys the horrible political show that is playing now in Romania, this will leed to an international legal precedent where a constitutional court will take the power of the vote from the people and give it always to the politicians. That will be the end of democracy as we know it, world wide. EU are you watching? US are you listening?

We should not degrade ourselves to secondary roles – not when we have a chance to be a great power together. We should not accept that Europe is just a salad of small and middle powers, seasoned with enemies of Europe. When united we are truly invincible. Europe can and must be a global force. Not one that reacts late, but one that defines the future. That would help everyone – from the Middle East to every other region in the world. That would help Europe itself because the challenges we face now are challenges to the European way of life where people matter, where nations matter. Europe can help build a better world. Europe must build a better world. A world without war. But for that, Europe needs strength. For that, we must act together – and act in time. And most of all – we must have the courage to act.
