WE BUILT THE MISSILE SITES THEY’RE COMPLAINING ABOUT” “What's funny about that proposal is that, you know, the U.S. has been at the forefront of the issues that Russia wants to be addressed. So, for example, not just NATO expansion,... but also placing so-called missile defense sites in Poland and Romania that the Bush administration said they're only there so we can defend Europe from Iran and North Korea, which everyone knows is a joke. The real aim of those sites in Poland and Romania is that these missile defense sites can easily be repurposed for offensive strike capability. You can easily put Tomahawks in these places, which could hit Moscow in a matter of minutes. That's the real point of these sites. And that's what Russia also wants to address. So the idea that the U.S. would mediate a negotiation over this when it's been the driving force behind what Russia perceives as a threat to its security is kind of a joke.
