Pressurization system uses bleed air routed through the Air Conditioning system to pressurize and condition the aircraft’s cabin. Outflow valves are used to regulate the pressurisation of the airplane. By setting the intended Flight Level and Landing Altitude, in AUTO mode, the pressurization controller strives to maintain the cabin altitude slightly below the selected landing altitude. In case of a failure, it is possible to switch to MANUAL ops if the AUTO & ALTN modes failed. In MANUAL, it allows full control of the cabin altitude and pilots refer to a placard to set the cabin altitude accordingly to the flight level by opening/closing manually the outflow valve. 5 years ago I saw this abandoned Log Cabin for sale on Craigslist. I just finished my first full gut build of an 1862 Brick Rowhome and was overly confident I could save this cabin for $100,000 in rehab costs and 18 months of work. It took over $300,000 & 2 years. I worked over 200 days straight at one point of the build. Over $100,000 in credit card debt. No heat, two winters & no running water until the last 6 months. This humbled me more than my first build and I was starting from a much better standpoint as I had actual physical skills now. I was a Financial Advisor with zero real world skills when I bought my first build. The reality is doing a build in the city and doing one in the middle of the woods are very different scopes of work. I had a roofer come out the week I purchased the cabin to deal with the 2 visible holes in the roof. He spent most of the time on the roof with me looking up at the trees that had the cabin besieged. He didn’t even care about the roof. “You need to remove about 2 dozen of these trees ASAP.” Me being the greenhorn I was at the time asked how much does that cost? $25,000! Almost 25% of my rehab budget blown and I still had water consuming the cabin from the holes in the roof and the underground tributary in the basement. In the end I personally removed close to 200 trees. Tons of dead ash trees. One was so close to the house you couldn’t open a window because it hit the tree. Last week the cabin was featured in Architectural Digest for the 2nd time. Now I barely remember the countless nights I spent praying to God to please help me find a way to make it another week. Funny you forget all of this once it’s done.
