As expected, Tesla’s Model Y ride-hailing service in the Bay Area currently has a safety driver in the driver’s seat, which is why Tesla is calling it a ride-hailing service rather than a Robotaxi service. It is still a paid service though and is likely using the same software as the Austin Robotaxis. Once Tesla receives the required permit, they will remove the safety driver and instead have a safety monitor in the passenger seat like they do in Austin. That could happen within the next 1–2 months, according to Elon.

Elon Musk launches the new CYBERCab. It will be sold for just $30,000. The Tesla Cybercab is a new electric car made for ride-hailing, like a self-driving Uber. It carries two people and drives itself completely, so it has no steering wheel or pedals. Tesla plans to start making it in April 2026. The car has a sharp, futuristic look and opens with butterfly-style doors. Tesla says it will cost less than $30,000. Owners will be able to put their Cybercab on Tesla’s robotaxi network to earn money. This car is part of Tesla’s plan to make transportation cheaper and fully self-driving.

Tesla now has 72 robotaxi in Austin. This is twice as much as 2 weeks ago and 22 were added in the last 3 days. There are 232 cars in Austin and the Bay Area. Only 137 different license plates for Waymos have been seen in Austin. Tesla can pass Waymo in number of cars in Austin. Tesla has registered 1655 cars in the Bay Area. Tesla can add those cars and they have over 700 registered drivers if they wanted to to deploy cars with safety drivers. Tesla has over 50,000 miles of driving needed for safety submission in California. 1500+ in SF Bay Area and 500+ is possible for Tesla robotaxi in February or March. Elon Musk Jo Bhakdi

Tesla is building a new 51,000 sq ft Service & Delivery Center in Grand Prairie, Texas, with city documents also allowing the site to support Tesla-owned autonomous vehicles. I visited the site, and the city’s SUP amendment says the facility may be used for charging, cleaning, repair, and maintenance of Tesla-owned autonomous vehicles. The documents identify the project as a service and delivery center, but the approved use also makes it a potential support location for Tesla’s Robotaxi fleet in DFW.

🇺🇸 TESLA TO DOUBLE AUSTIN ROBOTAXI FLEET NEXT MONTH AS DEMAND SURGES Tesla’s Robotaxi service in Austin is about to double. Elon said on X the city’s fleet will “roughly double next month” after complaints about long waits and constant “high service demand” alerts. The service, which launched in June with around 10 Model Ys running unsupervised FSD, now covers 245 square miles. Tesla aims for 500 cars in Austin and 1,000 in the Bay Area by year-end, moving closer to Elon’s goal of reaching half the U.S. population by December. Biggest warning I’ll give Tesla shorts right now. This time, you’re probably not going to get fucked by some classic short squeeze. You’re going to get fucked by being wrong about what Tesla becomes next. Look at the latest short-interest tape. As of the Aug 14 settlement: • 69,196,896 $TSLA shares short • ~2.2% of the float • 2.15 days to cover • ~$23.7 BILLION worth of stock short And the important part is that… Short interest peaked at 79.1M shares on June 30. So roughly 12.5% of those shorts had already been covered by August 14. So no… I’m NOT sitting here telling you that shorts are trapped. That’s not my thesis. My thesis is actually much more dangerous for a long-term Tesla short. What if they’re simply wrong? Wrong about autonomy. Wrong about Robotaxi. Wrong about Cybercab. And ultimately wrong about what Tesla’s earnings power could look like if this scales. Bc I’ve now watched this story go from something people laughed at… to something I personally rode in. My first Tesla Robotaxi ride in Austin was on launch day, June 22, 2025. Then I came back for the Cybercab launch on September 3, 2026. And it changed the way I look at Tesla. Cybercab isn’t something with Elon standing on a stage telling you what might happen five years from now. You can literally hail one. Pay for a ride. Get inside. There’s no steering wheel. No accelerator. No brake pedal. And it takes paying passengers through real Austin streets. Tesla itself now describes Cybercab as a fully autonomous, purpose-built two-seater in its Robotaxi fleet. That matters... Bc Tesla is no longer trying to prove that Robotaxi can exist bc it does exist. The next question is whether Tesla can scale it safely, economically and fast enough. And THAT is where I think shorts are massively underestimating the company. As of the latest Texas registry data, Tesla has 437 authorized vehicles in Texas - 388 Model Ys/49 Cybercabs It shows how quickly the fleet Tesla is preparing for commercial autonomy is growing. Now zoom out a bit. Tesla already lists more than 125,000 units of installed annual Cybercab manufacturing capacity in Texas. This is INSTALLED capacity. And Tesla calls Cybercab the “workhorse” of its Robotaxi fleet. Tesla spent most of its history making $ by building a vehicle and selling it once. Robotaxi opens a completely different model. Build the vehicle once. Then potentially monetize that same asset again. and again. and again. every time somebody takes a ride. Instead of only asking: “How many cars can Tesla sell this quarter?” You start asking: “How many autonomous miles can Tesla sell every day?” That is a MASSIVE change in the business model. And Cybercab is built specifically for that job. Not around a driver. Around the rider. If Tesla can bring those pieces together at scale, it has the potential to build a transportation network where the machine itself replaces THE largest costs in traditional ride-hailing: the human driver. Then there’s the flywheel. More Cybercabs. More geographic coverage. Shorter wait times. More rides. Higher fleet utilization. More recurring revenue. More capital to deploy even more vehicles. Tesla itself has told investors it expects hardware profits over time to be joined by accelerating AI, software and fleet-based profits. Does Tesla still have to execute? Absolutely. Regulation matters. Safety matters. Utilization matters. Manufacturing ramp matters. The economics have to work at scale. Those are legitimate risks, and anyone pretending otherwise isn’t being serious. But the serious Tesla short thesis can’t just be: “Elon promised autonomy before.” An actual bear now has to explain why a steering-wheel-free vehicle that is already carrying paying passengers won’t scale into a meaningful business. Tesla shorts are still betting against a car company, but I bet Cybercab is about to prove they’re shorting a transportation network.

Some investors/analysts argue against including Robotaxi in Tesla's valuation model because they believe that once Tesla achieves unsupervised Full Self-Driving (FSD), other companies will quickly follow suit within two to three years. However, I argue the following: • Tesla likely has a 4-5 year lead in generalized autonomous driving. • Tesla has millions of vehicles that could be potentially deployed into a Robotaxi network once unsupervised FSD is ready. • With a large supply of cars offering quick rides at cheaper prices than Uber and Lyft (no human driver), Tesla's robotaxi network will be extremely difficult to compete against. • Newcomers entering the market years later will struggle to match Tesla's supply density, competitive pricing, and demand, even in a single city. In other words, Tesla’s first mover advantage in the Robotaxi market will likely be very significant and the resulting network effects will make it extremely difficult to compete with for future newcomers to the Robotaxi market.

Morgan Stanley expects Tesla $TSLA to have roughly 1K fully self-driving robotaxis on the road next year. Here are the three robotaxi tailwinds they’re watching: 1. The inflection point is when Tesla removes safety monitors entirely and opens rides to the public. Every software update is pushing them closer and once one city allows it the regulatory dominoes start to fall. 2. To expand state-by-state in 2026, Tesla needs logged miles without safety drivers where crash rates and interventions keep trending down. If safety improves as the system takes over more driving then regulatory resistance weakens fast. 3. The Cybercab is a purpose-built robotaxi with no steering wheel or pedals built through Tesla’s “unboxed” manufacturing system. Lower parts count plus lower capex per unit means cheaper vehicles, faster ramp & better unit economics for an autonomous fleet. Productions starts April 2026

🚀 Tesla just hit another major Tesla Robotaxi milestone! FutureAzA highlighted that a production Cybercab with no steering wheel or pedals has now been spotted driving on public roads in Austin during supervised testing. On top of that, the Cybercab has been added to the Texas Connected Autonomous Vehicles Registry, and Tesla continues expanding testing, safety training, and operations. Tesla also hired former Intel executive Gary Jiang to help lead its Terafab chip project in Austin. Taken together, these aren't just small updates. They look like more signs that Tesla is preparing to scale Robotaxi and AI infrastructure at the same time. $TSLA

It's an honor to be the first Korean🇰🇷 to experience Tesla's robotaxi. (With Seung) Came from Korea to Austin, Texas for 12,500KM(7,700mile) to meet a robotaxi. Definitely one of the best choices of my life. Robotaxi is the future of autonomy. You can feel quite safe, and the App is user-friendly. I'm grateful that I can act and feel Tesla's technology and culture, all of this. I have come to believe more that the business of this robotaxi will do well in the future, and this is a must for South Korea as well. Thank you to both Tesla Robotaxi team and Elon Musk for providing an incredible experience!

ELON: TESLA OWNERS WILL BE ABLE TO ADD THEIR CARS TO THE ROBOTAXI FLEET “Any customer will be able to add or remove their car to the Tesla network. We expect this to operate like a combination of maybe the Uber and Airbnb model. If you own the car, you can add or subtract it to the Tesla network and Tesla would take 25% or 30% of the revenue. In places where there aren't enough people sharing their cars, we would just have dedicated Tesla vehicles. It's really simple. We'll update the app and add summon Tesla or add or subtract your car to the fleet. You'll be able to do that from your phone.” Source: Elon Musk, Tesla Autonomy Day, April 2019
