Most of the world’s ZKP research has circled around Ethereum and other ecosystems, where significant resources have been dedicated to advancing these systems, particularly for scaling and privacy applications. One of the most notable contributors to this research is Benedikt Bünz ☕️ — professor of cryptography at NYU and collaborator of Dan Boneh, who together inarguably form one of the strongest blockchain-applied cryptography teams in the world. The pair recently announced they’ll be leading the new post-quantum cryptography unit localhost research — the first dedicated PQ research effort within a major Bitcoin development organization. With Benedikt leading the charge on the use of zero-knowledge proofs for post-quantum mitigation, the question emerges: will the post-quantum transition be the catalyst to finally bring zero-knowledge proofs to Bitcoin's core protocol? Arbitrum embraces ZK Succinct has signed exclusive partnership with Tandem (Offchain Labs’ venture arm) to bring ZK proving to Arbitrum chains. Uma Roy: “Every rollup will become a ZK rollup. We gave OP Stack that option with OP Succinct; now Arbitrum’s massive ecosystem gets it too.” What changes for users - Finality: withdrawals and settlements go from 7 days to minutes. - Capital efficiency: funds are no longer locked during week-long challenge periods. - User experience: bridges become smoother, safer, and significantly faster. - Security: execution is enforced by ZK proofs at L1, reducing dependence on sequencer honesty. Steven Goldfeder: “Using ZK proofs brings the network closer to something like Stage 2 decentralization — security enforced at L1, not just by trusting the sequencer.” What changes for the ecosystem - Flexibility: more than 40 Arbitrum chains, including projects like Robinhood and Converge, will be able to choose ZK proving. - Modular design: Succinct provers integrate without requiring a rewrite of the stack. - Governance: Arbitrum One itself is DAO-governed and will not flip overnight, but the stack now supports ZK from the ground up. - Hybrid paths: optimistic and ZK approaches can coexist, giving teams cost and latency trade-offs. Creating control policies that work on real robots and handling diverse, unseen motions in physics-based character control is still difficult. The Disney team proposes a two-state solution. The first step involves learning a latent space encoding with an autoencoder. After encoding, the policy is trained to map kinematic input to dynamic output, ensuring accurate and adaptable movement. This method eliminates common mode collapse issues and improves motion encoding by separating these stages. This technique has proven effective in real robots in simulations, marking a significant leap forward in robot control.
