Introducing MyGo, a pure Go framework for building desktop app in webview or native UI, it's like GPUI and Tauri had a baby, but made in Go so it compiles fast

I love Go, but please let's go back to native desktop apps.

which part of this is not native

Webview?

can you read again

Yes it's Webview (and native) Why have Webview at all?

@localhost_5173 Because cross-platform compatibility is better. There is no need to write a code for each platform.

@gentengineer native ui in mygo is gpu rendered, it's also cross-platform

好框架...

says native, you open web page and the first thing you see is bunx install. You have to look 5 mins to find native UI. are all desktop developers retarded?

i don't know about that, but it would definitely take a retard 5 mins to find the native UI

You and your web page is so retarded every reply you get is we dont want webview

Webview? No, no please.

*webview or native UI*

Oh, my bad. 😂

We. Don’t. Want. Webview. Why is this even an option?

yeah that's called reality in life, at least there's an option

Out of curiosity, what is better than Wails?

So which one are we supposed to use, this or Quick GUI?

quickgui is an experiment, this is used in production

I love the explosion of native UI applications+ libraries now that AI made generating lots of code very cheap.

Great. Although my agent has been writing rust I don't wanted to continue further in Go something I understand and access well myself. Walis seems like a dead project at the moment.

@shriBhide1

Wow I love go and have been using wails

For linux does it use GTK/Libadwaita or QT?

its GTK and OpenGL

Oh my Go(d)! 🙀

Nice, is this using native widgets for each platform or it renders its own like GPUI and Flutter?

yeah it's like gpui

My go?

go for desktop apps is a fun combo. webview or native ui is the part i keep rereading. is the native path meant to cover the same stuff as the webview side, or is it its own smaller thing?

Great. I think the question is "Why Not?". I have tried GPUI too. It's promising but still evolving and yes, the still slow compile times in Rust are a bummer. One key question. What is the equivalent of PlayWright forMyGo? How do I give my agent eyes to see the DOM equivalent?

i just dont see why you would use go for anything desktop related?

why not?

@vem4s156553 I feel like its using java… and consequently its UI its not super modern alike.

@vem4s156553 it's gpu rendered like gpui so the ui can be as modern as you want

The native UI option is interesting for Mac apps. How far does MyGo go on distribution: can it package, sign and notarize a .app in CI, or does the developer handle that part separately?

Android?

not my focus, and I prefer expo or swift/kotlin because mobile apps need native looking ui

does it do native menus on mac or just webview

everything is native, webview is just an option

good. native menus were the dealbreaker for me

Very interesting. Does it support the global menu bar on Mac and Linux?

interesting

We are going back to desktop apps again.

whoah

Thank you for your work! Definitely gonna try this!

So it is basically Wails now?

it's more

Why this over @wailsapp?

what happend to quickGUI? are you gonna keep working on it ?

How does it compare to wails?

Great idea
