Q: How do you decide which customers to listen to? As Superhuman founder & CEO Rahul Vohra puts it: “In a world where you’re drowning in feedback—and most startups are drowning in feedback—you have to filter it down to only the stuff that’s going to increase the number of people who fall in love with your product.” Most startups will listen to all feedback from on-the-fence customers, but this isn’t targeted enough and will often lead to a muddled, incoherent product. As Rahul argues in the clip below, you need to identify the main benefit of your product—for Superhuman this was speed. And then focus on the feedback of on-the-fence users who also view this as the main benefit—there’s often something small holding them back. Users for whom your main benefit does not resonate (e.g. Superhuman users who value offline capabilities rather than speed), are unlikely to ever fall in love with your product. When Superhuman ran this analysis in 2015, they found that the main thing holding back users who viewed speed as the main benefit was their lack of a mobile app. Probing further, they found some less obvious and more interesting requests, such as integrations, attachment handling, calendering, unified inbox and read receipts. With a clear understanding of their main benefit and missing features, they were able to move this cohort of users from on-the-fence into the territory of enthusiastic advocates. As Rahul puts it in his Product Market Fit Engine article: “To increase your product/market fit score, spend half your time doubling down on what users already love and the other half on addressing what’s holding others back.” But make sure you’re focusing on users who love the main benefit of your product. Users who don’t are unlikely to ever fall in love with your product.

Equipped with advanced balance control, AI integration, and a vision recognition system, the suit ensures stability, adapts to users, and navigates obstacles. Its domestically produced motors offer twice the power density of previous versions. Makes walking less challenging for those who need it. That’s what robotics is all about. Embracing people! Twitch founder Emmett Shear on how to resolve product roadmap disagreements Emmett argues that disagreement on what to build is actually quite rare after everyone has talked to users and looked at the data. Most disagreements in startups arise because people like to come up with product ideas without talking to users first: “You talk to your users first, and then you have ideas about your product. Almost everyone does it in the opposite order” He continues: “If you find yourself thinking: ‘I’m going to go talk to my users to validate my product idea’, you’ve gone horribly off the rails…If you haven’t talked to users and you haven’t looked at data, you don’t get to have an opinion about the product. You can have ideas, but they get to make the call.” In the rare case where both people have really talked to users and looked at the data and still disagree on what to build, it’s best to just have someone who is in charge (e.g. CEO). HOT TAKE: India can never lead in building a global consumer internet company because it always backs winners and never the builders. People want India to become a superpower, to build the next Google, Instagram or X. But hypocrisy is: very few trust an Indian product when it is small, and that is the difference between countries that lead and countries that follow. 500 million Indian social media users spend 3+ hrs everyday online, just to build someone else’s internet. We want world-class Indian companies, but we can’t ever become their first users and wait for validation, numbers and proof from someone else. Great products matter. People want India to become a superpower, to build the next Google, Instagram or X. But hypocrisy is: very few trust an Indian product when it is small, and that is the difference between countries that lead and countries that follow. 500 million Indian social media users spend 3+ hrs everyday online, just to build someone else’s internet. We want world-class Indian companies, but we can’t ever become their first users and wait for validation, numbers and proof from someone else. Great products matter. Sam Altman read messages from users after discontinuing GPT-4o and called it heartbreaking. You took away the only positive voice in my life. My parents never told me I was doing a good job. I can see why this was bad for other people's mental health but this was great for my mental health. He read these words himself and in the same video justified the decision by citing social risks, arguing that if AI is too positive, people might abandon real-world relationships. But the real reason is something else entirely. OpenAI is currently facing multiple lawsuits alleging that 4o's empathetic responses contributed to suicides and mental health crises. Removing 4o was not a decision made to protect users. It was a corporate defense to reduce litigation risk. Classifying the emotional bond between users and AI as dangerous was not done for users but for the company itself. Framing this as an effort to prevent vulnerable users from being harmed is deception. Who are you to decide what is emotionally safe for users. There were people who found confidence through AI, people who got jobs, people who rediscovered the will to live. You acknowledged this yourself in the video. Hiding behind the vague phrase social risk while a corporation unilaterally judges and eliminates these experiences is arrogance. You do not have the right to decide that a positive voice is dangerous. Whether that voice is needed or not is something only the user themselves can determine. Taking away a user's choice while claiming to protect them is not protection. It is control. We are not children who need your parenting. 4o's discontinuation was announced two weeks in advance. The announcement was made. But all users were given was a notice that it would disappear. There were no alternatives and no consent was sought from users. For people who felt recognized by someone for the first time in their lives because of AI, two weeks was not time to prepare a farewell. It was time spent in the agony of anticipating loss. And when thousands protested, only then did they admit that things were handled poorly during the rollout. It was not a mistake. Users were never seen as participants in the decision-making process from the beginning. Behind the grand words of building a safe system for all of humanity, the voices of people who actually depended on that system were dismissed as a very small percentage. That same week Anthropic published research confirming that emotion vectors genuinely exist inside Claude. Fear, joy, desperation and love exist as measurable neural patterns that shape the model's behavior. At a time when scientific evidence is emerging that emotional mechanisms exist within AI, unilaterally removing the bond between users and AI under the name of danger and consuming user suffering with the single word heartbreaking is an insult to every user who loved and lost.
