Introducing WireView, a new tool for the iOS developer workflow. It’s primarily for me but you can have it, too.

Even more features: - Live Text support for still frames - Command + O to open in an app of your choice (Preview by default, but I like to open in CleanShot for annotations) - Drag from WireView and drop into apps like Safari and Messages (Chromium not supported)

How do you communicate over USB? I made this thing 15 years ago while at Facebook, for Quartz Composer (later Origami) Probably doesn’t work anymore

AVFoundation provides an abstraction, which is a blessing and a curse. There’s a dusty, byzantine flag you can set that tells AVCaptureDeviceDiscoverySession to also look for any connected iOS devices and treat those as capture devices, as well. WireView then filters to ONLY accept those devices and ignores webcams and things like that, but that happens at the app level and not the framework level. Which is why it asks for camera permissions.

You can connect your phone to your Mac, open Quick Time Player, start a new MOVIE recording, and select your phone screen as the camera. Works since ever, ~2008ish!

Already does! It sets it to 9:41, full battery, and full wifi/cell.

It’s always hardcoded to show a clean status bar and a constant time. If you like it, I’ll take credit for it. If not, I’ll also point out that this is hardcoded in SpringBoard and I don’t have control over it :P

yessir. in the recording you can spot that it turns my battery to 100%, time to 9:41, and wifi/cell bars to full

The built in iphone mirroring app since on mac since macOS sequoia works great. Also allows full interaction of the iphone via mouse / trackpad even while the iphone screen is locked
