I built Light Touch, a full-featured iPod touch 2G emulator for Mac. Networking + Wayback Machine proxy, GLES/3D games support, a built-in app store via rotation, screen capture, the works. Have fun

post-game Q&A/brown bag session

incredible. protect sam at all costs

🥺

It's still rough around the edges and this demo video was a bit shit but wanted to share sooner rather than later.

how do I connect it to the internet? Otherwise this is SOOO cool

In the device menu under the network submenu :)

This is so insanely cool!!! Legacy Store being built in is particularly awesome!! Hope to see it expanded to more models in the future!

A4 is the next milestone. My dream is to make this a complete library of legacy devices on any iOS version, including betas

This is sick wtf

love this, awesome work!

wait how can you just emulate iOS like that?! were older versions just less locked down or smth?

This is great. We might soon also see other forks expanding support for other iDevices using this tool

final boss of 00s tech nostalgia

@ParkerOrtolani Awesome project

"The American Dream remains unattainable for younger generations because wages have not kept pace with the cost of housing." He's too real for this

@raffichill

this is incredible. any desire to add the first iPad? or would be open to a PR?

I'm open to it. It's a totally different CPU which might be a bear, but I would love to support iOS 4/iPad/iPhone 4

i got $250 in free claude cloud credits, threw it at this problem to see what it could do on ultra code 🫡🫡

👀👀

the nyt in that shot is dated september 2009, so the proxy is serving the era not just the url

Yes, you can optionally proxy through Wayback Machine to an arbitrary date!

does it pin assets to the same snapshot, wayback usually falls back to nearest and you get a frankenstein page

!!! awesome

Ama macos 10.9 üzerinde çalışıyor mu ?

No. You need a Mac with Apple Silicon running macOS 14.4 or later.

Hmm yani Intel x86 bir mac ile çalıştırmıyor muyum hicmi imkanı yok ?

I mean, you can try to throw Claude at it, but I haven't invested any time in supporting it.

Wouldn't be opposed to a PR!

Dostum yaptığın iş çok başarılı umarım dahada geliştirir ilerlersin hiç ios 4 veya 5 düşündün mü ?

sick

this is so slick, love it

Is there some kind of sandboxing preventing JailbreakMe from working? It crashes every time I slide to jailbreak :(

Can you make a 3ds port habibi

i do fear you’re asking a chef to change your break pads here. totally different systems, not a lot would be reusable between the two. also idk how those systems work, but i’m intimately familiar with how iOS works under the hood which made this project much easier.

this is sick

that's really cool! any plans on releasing for Linux?

Dostum bana böyle birşey lazımdı çok iyi oldu Macbook pro 2012 de denemem lazım

Would love to see this concept I made in 2023 a reality one day (inshallah)

iOS 4 branch

This is such a fun build. The Wayback proxy makes it feel like a little time machine.

TIL about legacystore

@_inside This is absolutely amazing, so excited to try! I have a strong feeling that legacy jailbreak community will become big again soon with how much AI accelerates dev and investigation work!

Inténtalo en android a ver qué ocurre

I wish there was one for windows

Unreal

Very cool app. Need to put it on all my Macs. I now also started the project on GitHub and added it to my list there of Apple Emulators.

I'd have guessed dead servers would be the wall for old apps, so the Wayback Machine proxy is the clever part. Is it proxying everything or rewriting requests per app?

When enabled, absolutely everything goes to the Wayback Machine. You can turn it on or off mid run if it's too slow or if you hit a rate limit (which often times it is or does)

Makes sense. Being able to flip it off mid run is smart with how fast the Wayback Machine rate limits. Thanks for answering!

that is lit I wish this were on windows

it's all open source! chuck whatever agent at it and see what it can do

nice!
