Iran’s unanimous election to the CWC Executive Council marks a meaningful step for all who believe in a world free of chemical weapons. As a nation that has suffered deeply from Saddam’s chemical attacks during the 1980–1988 war on our people, Iran carries enduring wounds that still affect tens... of thousands of victims and their families. During the Conference, I was accompanied by Mr. Kamal Hoseinpur, MP from Sardasht—a city that stands as a global symbol of resistance, suffering, and the call for justice. The people of Sardasht endured chemical attacks whose consequences continue even today, made worse by unjust U.S. sanctions that restrict access to vital medicines and medical care. The truth must prevail, and those who supported Saddam’s chemical weapons program must be held responsible. We urge Germany to release the results of its past investigations and commit to full and ransparent investigations about the involvement of its companies and nationals in enabling Saddam’s atrocities. The judicial investigations by Dutch authorities which led to the prosecution and conviction of one Dutch individual is appreciated. However, we all know that it was the very minimum and showed only the tip of the iceberg. Justice for the victims is overdue, and their calls for justice must never be forgotten. We all pay tribute to those who lost their lives during Saddam’s savage chemical attacks, and to those who are still suffering from their injuries.show more

Today, during the visit of the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Türkiye to Ukraine we discussed diplomacy, all the real opportunities that exist and those that must be created. I also had a good meeting with U.S. Senators Graham and Blumenthal. I thank them for their support of Ukraine, their support for diplomacy, and their efforts to bring moral clarity to the situation. It was Russia that started this war. It is Russia that must stop the killings and the destruction of lives. It is very important that this is voiced in the media, in Congress, and in all the world’s influential offices. If Russia continues to speak in the language of ultimatums, if it tries to blackmail the world with the continuation of war, it must receive a strong response — a response from the United States, from Europe, and from everyone around the world who wants peace and who has declared their support for a ceasefire and for diplomacy.

I regret that the situation led to needless loss of lives and injuries both to the police and civilians. Investigations are ongoing to establish the number of deaths, the people responsible for the deaths and those who instigated the tension. Security has been beefed up in the area and we appeal for calm and restraint. The government is committed to protecting lives and property of every citizen and no one can take away their property illegally.

September 11th was a day that united a nation. Americans joined together to fight a common enemy. The day brought injury and death to American citizens, and we sent our finest to the farthest parts of the earth in the pursuit of justice. Today we remember the loss of life that occurred on 9/11. We remember the men and women who perished during the most senseless and violent attacks on US soil. We also remember the lives lost as a result of that day. We remember the EMS personnel who succumbed to their injuries days, weeks and years later sustained during that day. We remember the service members and intelligence officers who died in the wars that followed the attack. We remember the civilians who deployed and died in the support of the wars. We remember the service members who took their lives as a result of the experience of war. Today we want to not only remember and honor those who died on 9/11, but everyone who fought and died as a result of that fateful day. We as a nation will never forget.

Justice is the very line from which the movement towards secure peace may begin. Weapons give physical protection, but it is justice that restores the sense of security to life that was protected with the strength of weapons. And justice also brings back the sense of predictability to all global relations. Every potential aggressor should know what awaits him if he ruins peace. It is justice that can ensure this. We have to do everything possible for the strength of justice so that justice provides real strength to our common security – security from aggressions and terror. And let everyone who destroys peace be truly afraid of facing trial in the Hague. I made this statement during the conference "Restoring Justice for Ukraine". It is taking place today in The Hague bringing together states and organizations working to achieve justice for Ukraine. On January 27, the world honors the memory of the victims of the Holocaust. It was the Nazis' deliberate attempt to erase an entire nation—to kill all its people and destroy everything that reminded the world of the Jewish nation. Six million victims. The crime of the Holocaust must never be repeated, yet, sadly, the memory of it is gradually fading. And the evil that seeks to destroy the lives of entire nations still exists in the world today. We must all fight for the sake of life and remember that indifference is the breeding ground for evil. We must overcome hatred, which leads to cruelty and murder. We must not allow forgetfulness to take root. And it is everyone's mission to do everything possible to ensure that evil does not prevail. On the eve of this Day, together with rabbis, representatives of the diplomatic corps and the team of our state, we honored the memory of the men and women, adults and children—millions who were killed in the Holocaust.

This is the day the Lord has made and we will rejoice and be glad in it. The victory at the Supreme Court was not just one for the PDP but for the people of Plateau State. We must not behave like the ten lepers, we must return quickly and give praise to God who made it possible. This service was held in remembrance of our Fallen Heroes. We want to thank God for those Great men and women who devoted themselvess to the service of the nation. Unfortunately, we have not done well in looking after those who have served the nation appropriately, And I am praying that as a nation, we will do better in looking after those who have served the nation valiantly. For those of you who are still serving, we want to encourage you to continue to devote yourselves to the best of your conscience and ability to protect lives and properties. As an institution, the armed forces are very crucial and central to the survival of every nation, and I must admit, like every institution in Nigeria, things have not been well. As a government, we will continue to provide the necessary tools and enabling environment for the Armed Forces to effectively discharge their constitutional responsibilities of protecting the lives and property of citizens in the State. I will continue to advocate that the President and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces will insist on the return to true professionalism within the armed forces and the security agencies, and I am sure when we begin that journey, it will be worthwhile.

Today marks the 46th anniversary of the Genocide of the Feyli Kurds, in which thousands of Feyli Kurds were killed, disappeared and displaced by the former Ba'athist regime. Once again, we remind the federal government of its moral, legal and constitutional responsibility to provide reparations to the victims of the Genocide of the Feyli Kurds, the chemical weapons attacks, the Anfal Genocide and all the victims of the former Iraqi regime. On this somber occasion, we pay tribute to the souls of the martyrs of the Genocide of the Feyli Kurds and all the martyrs of Kurdistan.

We visited the scene of the explosion which occurred at about 7.44 pm yesterday, 16 January 2024 in Bodija, Ibadan. This unfortunate incident resulted in death and injury to residents in the vicinity and also affected properties. We have already deployed first responders and all relevant agencies within Oyo State to carry out comprehensive search and rescue operations. These operations will continue throughout the night. Earth moving equipment, ambulances, emergency lights, and security were deployed to the scene of the incident. The wounded and injured are being treated and moved to public and private hospitals within Ibadan. Medical personnel are on standby at these hospitals to provide all needed assistance to the injured. We have visited UCH to see some of those injured during the incident. In total, we have 77 injured victims so far, most of whom were treated and discharged and 2 fatalities. May their souls rest in peace and may God give their loved ones the fortitude to bear this irreparable loss. I have directed that the medical bills of all victims be covered by the government. We will also be providing temporary accommodation for those whose houses were affected and ensuring that they are supported to rebuild their lives. Preliminary investigations by the security agencies revealed that illegal miners occupying one of the houses in Bodija had stored explosive devices there which caused the blast. The investigations are ongoing. All those found culpable for this will be brought to book. I urge all residents to please call 615 for any emergencies they may be experiencing at this time and to remain calm and stay away from the immediate scene of the incident to allow rescue operations to be carried out without interference. We are grateful to the first responders, security personnel and all those who are at the scene to assist with the rescue operations as well as the medical personnel taking care of the injured. Please say a prayer for those who have been affected by this disaster as we continue with the rescue operations.
