Operation Dudula needs to hear the truth clearly and without sugar-coating: the very man they cheer for and defend is out here calling people from the Eastern Cape “foreigners.” Just let that sink in. He’s not talking about people from outside the country—he’s talking about South Africans. Born here. Raised here. People who speak our languages, carry our history, and share our bloodlines. So before they chant “South Africans first,” they need to stop and ask themselves—which South Africans? Because if someone can stand up and casually decide that even Eastern Cape people aren’t South African enough, then this fight was never about protecting the country. It was about dividing it. How do you claim to love your country when you spit on the very people who make it what it is? How do you shout about pride, unity, and sovereignty while calling your own people outsiders? This is not patriotism. This is not activism. This is hate wearing the mask of a cause. If Operation Dudula is serious about “putting South Africans first,” then they must first look in the mirror and ask themselves: Do we mean all South Africans? Yes, indeed, this is lawlessness by any standard. Even by banana republic standards, this is still lawlessness. Your country has a constitution, it has a government, it has a police service, and it has a ruling party. I am sure you can see that some of the people there are actually wearing ruling party T-shirts. It is lawless regardless of whoever does it. It is an embarrassment to South Africa as a country, what you are doing and what you are encouraging people to do. Your country has an immigration service. If people are in your country illegally, they should be arrested and deported through lawful processes. You do not go around destroying property, tearing down markets, and attacking people. It is illegal regardless of whoever does it. It is not illegal because I have said so. It is illegal because the laws of your country make it so. This is vigilantism, pure and simple, and it is tainting the reputation of South Africa, not only across Africa but across the world. If you have got satellite television in your home, you can see that these actions are being reported everywhere. It is not good for your country. This kind of barbarism undermines the rule of law, fuels division, and damages South Africa’s standing as a constitutional democracy. It is the actions of a few that are tainting the reputation of many. The average South African is not mindless like this. They respect the law, and they respect the fact that among them, in their communities, there are people from other countries. White South Africans or foreigners generally aren’t competing with illegal migrants for limited public resources. Most don’t live in townships or informal settlements where the pressure on public clinics, schools and low skilled jobs is felt most. Poor black South Africans do. That’s why this issue is experienced differently. It’s not about race. It’s about who is directly affected by the competition for already stretched public resources. People who live side by side with illegal migrants and rely on the same public services are naturally going to have different concerns from those who don’t. Their experiences deserve to be acknowledged, not reduced to accusations of xenophobia. I don’t know why she and everyone including the government and politicians don’t get it. I’m not directly affected by illegal immigrants but I can’t dismiss the lived experiences of people who are affected by them.
