I worked in Silicon Valley in the 90's. It was NOTHING like this back then. In the 90's, we engineers could not work enough hours, cuz we LOVED what we did. Ungerman Bass, 3Com, Intel, Cisco..... all of them were the same. We worked hard, and we played hard. Almost every day, around 5pm, you'd here someone yell "I'm workinging late tonight...who wants to stick around to trash a server, and see how it recovers?". And, we'd all work late. We easily hit our targets each quarter, and they'd fill the parking lot with tents to celebrate. Then, we'd all hit it hard again, next Monday. It was a blast to work there. No supervision needed. Just full of guys and gals that loved inventing, and designing new networking protocols, networking cards, network servers, everything that is the core to how things run today. Not even remotely like what is being represented in this video. I'm so glad I had the chance to experience the real Silicon Valley....not this horse-shit we see today.

Adult day care, and it’s been like this for well over a decade. It peaked in 2020, but still something like 50-80% of “knowledge worker” jobs are like this today. This is why I’m confused on the idea that AI will replace these jobs. These jobs can be replaced right now, by literally nothing. And yet other than occasional moments like Elon buying Twitter this never happens. And you don’t even need AI to determine which jobs are useful and which aren’t, you can figure this out by just asking them what they do.

I worked at a tech company that was very profitable until it hired a bunch of these people. They spent all day creating meetings and would drag the productive people into them. Lots of $$ wasted on zoom classes about topics like "vulnerability". Mass layoffs a few years later.

These adults couldn’t survive a day in a real job. She’s going to be replaced by AI that will do her job five times as good, 100 times as fast, and cost them zero in food waste.
