It’s a delicate dance to build practical home robots 🔊👯♀️

Robot sees something and takes a turn. No more robots bumping into anything.

Autonomous navigation is non-negotiable for general-purpose robots in the home. To be useful and safe, they need to be robust to all kinds of clutter as well as gradual and sudden changes in their environment.

We designed Isaac’s autonomy stack from the ground up with these high expectations in mind and test him accordingly: - we run him non-stop around our office to ensure Isaac maintains consistent maps - we deliberately interfere to make sure Isaac plans paths that are direct and responsive, leaving ample space around him regardless of what the humans around him choose to do - we push the limit on clutter: so long as there’s a path through a dense mess, we expect Isaac to find it

We try to make this testing as adversarial as possible. In each video/scenario above, with items big or small, Isaac responds 100% autonomously and without pre-built maps of the obstacles around him.

We’ll post more videos like these because we have to keep pushing the envelope!

congrats, demo looking good 🔥

🔥

Could someone teach my robot vacuum cleaner, to ride as this vin disel at the video?

Roomba solved this 20 years ago

Not me think it was going to pick up items and dance with them on their way to place them 🤦🏻

Local motion control or visual navigation?
