It’s been a month now since I started running a public Minecraft server from a $25 phone. Android hates being a server OS but it’s definitely possible with a few tweaks.

if you want to try out the server for yourself! Some other things to mention: - Having root would fix a lot of the problems with Android killing the process but since the phone is sold through a prepaid carrier it’s basically impossible to root. - You definitely can use it for 24/7 services like a web server but they will be killed by Android at some point so you just have to have plans in place for recovery. I’m experimenting with using Tasker to automatically recover from a crash and restart Termux and the Minecraft server inside. - I am keeping track of the list of tweaks I’ve used to make things more reliable here: - The amount of mobs that can be spawned at a time has been limited as well to improve performance and allow for more people to play.

imagine if we can install linux on all this phone, and not stuck on this android blcked by constructeur

Yea for sure! If you have an older device that you can get root for, I hear good things about postmarketOS.

you should try getting running on an android phone. it’s still missing some core features like villagers and bosses, and mobs and animals are still WIP, but it’s so ridiculously efficient i’m wondering how well it’d run on the phone

nice I’ll give it a try!

I'd recommend using the Spark profiler if you want more in-depth info about how your server's performing on this hardware. You can even export profiles from the server in-game and view them in browser

Definitely. Spark helped a lot in figuring out that mobs were the biggest problem. I’ve since turned down the spawn rate of most mobs.

oh i love this project so much - it brings so much joy of tinkering with something tech that wasnt meant to do this but certainly makes it easier and more affordable - please keep sharing (ㅅ´ ˘ `)

If the device is rooted you should use ACC ( to limit battery charge to ~50% and enable "idle mode" which will make the phone power itself straight from USB keeping the battery basically disconnected. This will prevent a possible spicy pillow situation.

How hot is the phone getting?

It thermal throttles quite early so it never feels hot.

@patomation water cooling the phone?

@Roboman5e15 @marshallrichrds Maybe a mod is in order ? $200 water cool for a $25 phone lol

im stuck help please

Looks cool BUT WHY?

That’s crazy. What phone is it?

moto g 2025

is that epsteins fucking island

I got the Dragon Egg haven't been on the server in a while tho it's looking great

Any suggestions for @GrammaCrackers she streams Minecraft to raise funds for the Phoenix Children's Hospital.

Termux is great, sadly stock android is crippling it on recent versions

agreed

не удивил я так же делал

Excellent. Interested to know about clawd and the phone capabilities.

there's a $25 phone?

@grok how can I make this thing like what are the tools and procedure?in my old phone

Does it handle mods well?

The more impressive thing is that the friend group didnt stop playing

my power's been getting out so i tried using my phone as a way to save on laptop battery a little. well i shouldve instead ran it on singleplayer

That's incredible!

The biggest limit to the lifespan of Android phones is the non-removable battery. If it could be easily removed, many phones could be reused as fanless home servers once their primary life as a phone is over.

I want to do something like this, I have some older phones I could theoretically try it on. Unfortunately, cant root or unlock the bootloader on any of them to run something other than android on them.

Buy used phone supported by Droidian/ubports/pmos and have a native Linux phone. Cool gimmick to show at parties also

This is very impressive. What else could we do with these phones? Is a NAS / home security possible?

@DreadVeresta

This is the type of content I live for. Very cool project

@calop1337

i bought one of these while my phone was being serviced for like a week. definitely interested in experimenting with its capabilities having seen this.

this man is hosting infrastructure on a device most people use to scroll reels. king behavior.

@FrostThe_ tive uma ideia

One question: on my mobile phone (8gb ram), when I start a server, it consumes almost 100% of the RAM. Why is that? I suppose it's because I use Forge 😅

Max cap limited to 12?

Probably the coolest thing I’ve seen been done on a phone so far
