It's out! Ciderlight is a Metal-based Minecraft renderer + shader for Mac. On my M1 Pro, It runs 60+ FPS on High setting, and 100+ FPS on Low (which still looks great) It's fully open source. Here's a short trailer. Download: GitHub:

I wanted Ciderlight to enhance Minecraft’s lighting while staying true to its vanilla look. Here's a comparison of Ciderlight turned on (left) vs vanilla Minecraft (right)

You can also install the mod to just use the Metal renderer and turning off the shader. The performance improvements are massive. With Ciderlight (no shaders) I'm getting 600+ FPS (left), vs 90+ FPS on vanilla Minecraft.

It’s been pretty stable in my testing and in feedback from others who’ve tried it over the past few days! To contribute you can head to

Nicely done! Can confirm works great!

Incredible work! I’ll be trying this right away

I've seen many videos on Minecraft metal integration and this one seems kinda underwhelming Do you have any comparison with the FPS from your mod compared to sodium or optifine? GTZ

bro has completely changed the way Mac users play Minecraft. history in the making!

Any chance there will be a Neo Forge Version, this would be great if i could use this on the create mod server I play on

Es necesario usarlo como mod, si es así te permite iniciar en servidores públicos o lo tomara como mal?

Ciderlight is a client side only mod. So most servers should work well with it, unless they have more obscure rules that the mod might violate

60 on High on an M1 Pro is the number that sold me. Metal on Mac is still the path I trust for that lighting.
