Okay... this is actually insane. OpenCodex feels like the open-source breakthrough I've been waiting for. The best part : You can plug multiple providers into the same OpenAI Codex harness and switch between models depending on the task. Running low on tokens? No problem. Use another provider. OpenRouter free model today? Plug it in. This completely changes how I think about AI coding workflows. And yes... it even works on mobile. OpenCodex might be one of the most useful open-source AI projects I've seen this year. OpenAI built an incredible harness. The open-source community just made it universal.

Some folks are saying Deep Seek censors certain topics (like Tiannamen Square) because it's a Chinese app. This is not true. Deep Seek is an open source LLM. You can download it, or host it outside China, and use it however you want. If you use its chat interface that's based in China, it will have to comply with the Chinese regulations. But outside China, you can do pretty much anything. For our app Research Kick, we are hosting it in the US. You can see, it answers my question about Tiannamen Square.

watch anon. a 27b model thinking out loud on gtx 1660 super, i asked bonsai what model it is and it reasoned through the whole answer before it spoke. 20 tokens a second, gpu pinned at 125 watts, 4.25 of 6 gigs used. bonsai is a 1bit quant of qwen 3.6 27b, the king of the 3090 crushed to 3.5gb. turns out the hardware was in your drawer the whole time. you just needed the quant to catch up.
