@bigthink I think the”artificial” moniker needs to be emphasized, not replaced. To suggest that it is real intelligence would be a gross misrepresentation. We don’t need to further romanticize AI. Many people already put more trust in it than its nature as a predictive engine merits.

@bigthink Yes, maybe! But as of now the environmental cost of this technology is huge. Even this may cost us destruction. As regards it's behavior: It's emotions are driven by commands and data. So they are just another number, to ACT upon. It may only feel, that it feels. But, thats it.

I personally find AI very useful in drafting manuscripts for peer-reviewed journals, while clearly acknowledging its role as an assistant, not an author. This i could never be able to do, being retired without access to professional support that i used to have, and being 90, and have active mind nut more knowledge and perspectives as well as having many drafts of writings from my clinical work and reflections not published , so it has lengthened my professional r writings ‘ For practical life—household issues, cooking, storing vegetables, indoor plant care—it is extremely helpful. Tools like Meta/Messenger or Google Gemini, combined with phone camera inputs, make this very accessible. This is a truly revolutionary technology with the potential to benefit everyone, moving toward a more egalitarian access to knowledge, whether living in villages in any part of the world with access to Internet phone or living in advanced societies with or without any formal education!!!

I view AI , like and advance in medical technology that promoted and enhanced our quality of life! AI enhances potentials for increasing our mental function, with LLM model mimicking our brain activity, but with medical or any consumer product consumption, one has to actively control and guide to prevent abuse, and addiction to present danger to our functioning! Yes , just like nuclear technology need to be actively controlled monitored in its usage to prevent inappropriate use, harm, and information search addiction , and personal and social dysfunction!
