I've been making great progress on my #Unrealengine tool for helping you find optimisation opportunities and potential bugs in your #UE5 levels It's pretty much there, few more bits to go. I started writing up the documentation and need to do a bunch of testing to make sure everything... works as intended! I have collision in general, but yeah using complex or simple would be good. I think I’ll need to find a way to read the project configs as collision can be set ‘project default’, which makes things a bit more complex to work out what’s what. I’ll definitely look into this though

5001 lights in WebGPU (Shade). 1 directional shadowed light with CSM + 5000 sphere lights. Using clustered lighting, similar to Unreal, the screen is split into tiles of 32x32 pixels and then further split along the Z axis. Lights are culled and binned. Most of the time engines implement clustered lighting with a fixed number of partitions in XY, something like 40x20, let's say, this is generally fine, but it doesn't adapt to different aspect ratios and tends not to scale as well into higher screen resolutions. Finally, by splitting the XY in 32 pixel increments (or anything that's 2^N really) - you get better wave coherence, that is - pixel shader runs more efficiently. The engine supports up to 10,000 so-called "local lights" in the frame, which can be either be sphere lights (point lights with volume) or spot lights. When I say "in the frame" - I mean on-screen at the same time. There can be a million lights in the scene for example, but only 10,000 can be visible at a time. Can increase the limit, but I reckon 10,000 is already a pretty (un)reasonable limit.

Here is an open-source tool to generate a complete dataset. 1. Describe the data you want 2. An orchestrator agent searches the web 3. Sub-agents run in parallel to fetch the data 4. You get a structured dataset you can download For example, you can run Bigset with the query "all leica lenses being sold on amazon", or "leica stores in kyoto with their opening hours and ratings". Bigset uses TinyFish's free Search and Fetch APIs in the background. You can configure it to refresh the data on a schedule. You can self-host it with your own keys. This is, by far, one of the best uses of modern AI. If you don't use embeddings when querying your database, you are definitely leaving a lot on the table. In this video, I'll show you how to run semantic searches using OpenAI and PostgreSQL. It's all thanks to Pgai, an open-source PostgreSQL extension: Here's what will happen: 1. We'll create a simple table with news articles 2. We'll generate embeddings for those articles 3. We'll run queries on top of those embeddings For this video, I generated the embeddings using a simple query, but pgai Vectorizer would do the same automatically as new information makes it into the database. This is awesome! If you have a PostgreSQL database with data you are searching over, you should start experimenting with semantic searches immediately. For most use cases, a combination of full-text search + semantic search is the best approach. If you don't have a PostgreSQL database around, you can try free for 30 days using Timescale: Thanks to the Timescale (now TigerData) team for partnering with me on this post!
