I’ve been working on a WordPress Gutenberg-native AI copilot. The results were pretty astounding to me once I got GPT to “speak Gutenberg”

There’s a lot of content massaging to make this seamless. “Programming” GPT with system messages is incredibly powerful. Once GPT-4 is out I expect things to only improve. The prompt starts “You are an assistant that writes WordPress gutenberg code and says nothing else”

Seamless integration into the block editor is very important, the ~ (tilde) hotkey is used to either insert the prompt, on when blocks are selected it will apply the AI prompt to the selection

Empty prompts can be intimidating, like a blank sheet of paper. Inspired by Notion, I added proactive transforms when content is selected

I wrote more about it on the Human Made blog over at Going through this project has convinced me that LLMs have much more potential than I was giving them credit for. It feels like there’s still a lot to discover what the models are capable of.

Just wow 🏅

Wow, that's really impressive! I'm actually developing a native AI writer for Gutenberg myself, and like you, I've drawn inspiration from Notion AI. If all goes according to plan, I'll be releasing it soon at the @GutenbergHub shop. 😇

@GutenbergHub Wow it looks like we had a very similar UX and implementation!

This is incredible, can't wait to see how this progresses.

This is what you and @noeltock were working on all weekend at WCCH! Looks really amazing.

I was with you until you wrote programme.

Cool, except for the fact that the data it returned is wrong.

I’m impressed, and at the same time I’m worried for the world energy consumption if every little thing on every single site is done through a powerful AI instead of by a person clicking a few buttons.

Yes though I think content authoring is a “rare enough” category. Now, at what point are people running that amount of compute every time someone visits a website… probably once it becomes fast enough, which maybe be an issue!

Looks awesome, well done!

Looks great! Any plans to implement a "stream" response?

Yes!
