This was ruled Riley Greene reaching on a fielder's choice with the runner Kevin McGonigle safe at second on the error (and he eventually went to third). This is scored correctly, as this is an ordinary effort play by the second baseman Andrew Velazquez, who just has to catch an easy bouncing grounder and step on second. There is no way this is a double, and a hit an any shape or form. This is a really easy, ordinary effort play for the second baseman. #FountainsUp #RepDetroit

This ball had just a 55% catch probability, and is just made to look so easy by Ceddanne Rafaela. It's all about what you don't see on the screen, because it happens before the camera is on the play. The jump is 9.0 feet above average. He was positioned well into right-center. Lesser outfielders win catch on the week on this one with a full extension dive.

Not a change, but I've had a TON of folks asking if this is getting changed from June 10. This is a ball hit by Mookie Betts of the Los Angeles Dodgers and it was ruled an error on Jake Mangum of the Pittsburgh Pirates. The only thing I can think of is that Mookie didn't appeal, because this is a base hit, it's always been a base hit, and it will continue to be a base hit. Except on this one play. There is no way a sliding attempt like this is an error. I know Mangum broke the wrong way, but that doesn't factor it ... it's the catch, the physical catch, and there is ZERO CHANCE this is ordinary effort. I know we talk changes here, but this non-change is the most confounding one for me since Aaron Judge's first career walk-off hit, which was the most obvious fielder's choice of all time, but because it was the last play of the season, it didn't get appealed or changed.
