Jeff Bridges reveals how precise The Big Lebowski really was Jeff Bridges explains that The Big Lebowski feels like it was improvised, but the cast was actually very precise about the script. “They write so well that it feels like improvisation, but it’s not.” Bridges says he, John Goodman... and the cast knew exactly where every word belonged. “We were very precise, you know, about where each fuck was, each man was.” Although Bridges was a longtime pot smoker, he says he didn’t smoke while making the movie because he wanted to stay clear and rely on his own experience. “I knew what that, you know, I could get there without, you know, having to smoke it.” He says he and John Goodman would improvise to find the vibe of a scene, but always returned to the script. “We would do improvisation, John and I remember doing this, to feel the vibe of the scene and then we would always go back in the script.” Bridges compares the process to music, saying every word had its place. “It’s almost like, you know, like music, you know, you want the right melody, you want the notes and each man is there for you.” And even years later, looking through his photography book from The Big Lebowski takes him straight back to those moments. “I look, if you have that book and I get boom, I get right back to each of those scenes.”show more
