Announcing the Genesis project — after a 24-month large-scale research collaboration involving over 20 research labs — a generative physics engine able to generate 4D dynamical worlds powered by a physics simulation platform designed for general-purpose robotics and physical AI applications. Genesis's physics engine is developed in pure Python, while being 10-80x faster than existing GPU-accelerated stacks like Isaac Gym and MJX. They are building an Optimus Academy, which is a large scale, dedicated real-world training facility to accelerate the development of Optimus. The Academy will deploy thousands of Optimus units, potentially 10,000 to 30,000 robots, in a controlled realistic environment where they perform self-play, experiment with tasks, iterate on behaviors, and continuously generate training data through trial and error. The Tesla bots will also run millions of simulations in Tesla’s high-fidelity physics-accurate engine, allowing Optimus to close the “sim-to-real gap” by using these real-world observations to refine and validate the simulations! “You’re actually highlighting an important limitation and difference from cars. We RL'ed humanoid robots to Cristiano Ronaldo, LeBron James, and Kobe Byrant! These are neural nets running on real hardware at our GEAR lab. Most robot demos you see online speed videos up. We actually *slow them down* so you can enjoy the fluid motions. I'm excited to announce "ASAP", a "real2sim2real" model that masters extremely smooth and dynamic motions for humanoid whole body control. We pretrain the robot in simulation first, but there is a notorious "sim2real" gap: it's very difficult for hand-engineered physics equations to match real world dynamics. Our fix is simple: just deploy a pretrained policy on real hardware, collect data, and replay the motion in sim. The replay will obviously have many errors, but that gives a rich signal to compensate for the physics discrepancy. Use another neural net to learn the delta. Basically, we "patch up" a traditional physics engine, so that the robot can experience almost the real world at scale in GPUs. The future is hybrid simulation: combine the power of classical sim engines refined over decades and the uncanny ability of modern NNs to capture a messy world.

Today, these interactions are essentially real-time dreams. They lack the persistence and shared logic that turns a video into a multiplayer game. Or concert. Or classroom. Or the holodeck. We believe the ultimate architecture for gaming (and the holodeck) is Roblox Reality. It’s a hybrid architecture that marries the structured data and logic of the Roblox Engine and Roblox Cloud with the generative power of Video World Models. The Roblox Engine provides the underlying synchronized ground truth—the score, physics, multiplayer sync, etc.—while our video model acts as a Super Upsampler to layer on photorealistic detail. We believe this will ultimately remove barriers to high-fidelity creation, allowing a team of three people to build a narrative-driven, photorealistic masterpiece in a single week. This is an early look at turning solitary AI dreams into a social, playable reality.

If AI scientists are writing millions of papers, many of which are slop, and some of which are incremental progress, how would we identify the one or two which come up with an extremely productive new idea? In 1948, Shannon was one of hundreds of engineers at Bell Labs working on how to cleanly send voice signals over noisy copper wires. His paper sat in the same technical journal as reports on reducing static and building better filters. How would you recognize that he has come up with this very general framework for thinking about information and communication channels, which over the coming decades would have enormous use from domains as far apart as cryptography to genetics to quantum mechanics? It seems like it can take fields multiple decades to recognize the significance of unifying new concepts. Because it is on that time scale that the fruits of such general concepts lead to new discoveries across many different fields. We’ve managed to solve this peer review problem for human scientists (at least somewhat). Now we’ll need to do it at a much greater scale for the mass of AI science that will be thrown at us.

We releasing an early version of Moonlake's world modeling agent. It is not just a tool for generating beautiful scenes. It is a system for creating worlds you can interact with. Objects respond. Physics runs determinstically. Your actions have real causal effects. We believe in building with the community, not in isolation. Over the past month, we have iterated closely with users, hosted hackathons, and worked side by side with hundreds of beginner game developers to understand their workflows, frustrations, and creative ambitions firsthand. Our intention is simple. Help developers solve real pain points. Expensive tooling. Repetitive tasks. Tedious work that slow down creativity. We believe humans are the true source of creativity. Tools should amplify that power, not replace it. Game developers, and more broadly creators, will always be at the center of our ecosystem. This is our first beta release. It is an early step, but we hope it gives you a clear sense of what we are building toward. A future where anyone can create rich, interactive worlds with intention and meaning.

We are back again :) After three weeks of quiet building. Introducing Genesis World 1.0, our latest simulation platform, the second release in our full-stack suite. Open-sourced. Robotics is still bottlenecked by the 1× speed of the physical world. Every model, checkpoint, and data recipe eventually needs to be tested on physical hardware, slowly, expensively, and with limited coverage. One hour in reality can become 100 days in simulation. That is how robotics model iteration moves from a wall-clock bottleneck to a compute problem. To make this work, simulation has to be both fast and trustworthy. Over the past year, we rebuilt the entire stack: a GPU-accelerated cross-platform compiler, penetration-free multi-physics contact solvers, unified rigid and deformable physics, and a photo-realistic renderer purpose-built for physical AI applications. We built Nyx, a high-performance path-traced rendering engine for robotics application. Genesis World 1.0 achieves near realtime performance with our latest development for penetration-free IPC solver, supporting various types of deformables beyond rigid bodies. It supports contact-rich, dexterous manipulation simulation across different embodiments: unitree, sharpa, wuji, genesis hand and various types of grippers. Under the hood is Quadrants, our effort in pushing forward cross-platform GPU-accelerated computation. Quadrants started as a fork of Taichi, and we rebuilt most of the critical parts for optimizing simulation workloads, giving 10x faster launch time and up to 4.6x runtime performance compared to the initial Genesis release. Together, they bring us to an unprecedentedly low sim-to-real gap, enabling zero-shot real-to-sim model evaluation and much faster iteration of GENE. All available today. I don’t know if we live in a Matrix, but I know for sure that robots will spend most of their lives in simulation. Let machines train machines. I’m excited to introduce DexMimicGen, a massive-scale synthetic data generator that enables a humanoid robot to learn complex skills from only a handful of human demonstrations. Yes, as few as 5! DexMimicGen addresses the biggest pain point in robotics: where do we get data? Unlike with LLMs, where vast amounts of texts are readily available, you cannot simply download motor control signals from the internet. So researchers teleoperate the robots to collect motion data via XR headsets. They have to repeat the same skill over and over and over again, because neural nets are data hungry. This is a very slow and uncomfortable process. At NVIDIA, we believe the majority of high-quality tokens for robot foundation models will come from simulation. What DexMimicGen does is to trade GPU compute time for human time. It takes one motion trajectory from human, and multiplies into 1000s of new trajectories. A robot brain trained on this augmented dataset will generalize far better in the real world. Think of DexMimicGen as a learning signal amplifier. It maps a small dataset to a large (de facto infinite) dataset, using physics simulation in the loop. In this way, we free humans from babysitting the bots all day. The future of robot data is generative. The future of the entire robot learning pipeline will also be generative. 🧵
