During the Valiant Shield exercise on June 6, troops from the 7th Infantry Division (Multi-Domain Command - Pacific) conducted Dark Eagle training. The U.S. Army did not reveal the location, but photos, Adm. Samuel Paparo’s June movements, and the exercise area strongly suggest Guam. The LRHW has a reported range of around 3,500 km. U.S. commanders have previously stated that, from Guam, the weapon could threaten high-value targets on mainland China.source:

The reason CENTCOM wants it now is that Iran has moved its ballistic missile launchers deeper into the country, beyond the reach of the current Precision Strike Missile (PrSM). Each hypersonic costs roughly $15 million, and there are no more than 8 available. Russia and China, it’s worth noting, have been deploying their own versions for years.
