JUST IN: LEGENDARY STANFORD CRYPTOGRAPHER DAN BONEH JUST SAID ANYONE WHO THINKS QUANTUM WILL DESTROY #BITCOIN IS "INSANE" "IF YOU THINK QUANTUM IS GOING TO AFFECT THE SECURITY OF BLOCKCHAINS, YOU'RE WRONG" "WE JUST NEED TO MOVE TO POST-QUANTUM ADDRESSES." "WE KNOW WHERE TO GO." "THERE ARE ALL SMALL... show more

"just" is doing a lot of heavy lifting in that sentence...

We know where to go but we are not moving.

Completely right. It won't kill Bitcoin the technology. But the value of Bitcoin the application could absolutely be impacted by a chaotic migration to PQC. Far more on the line than anything related to BIP-110

Yeah let's see the *plan* not the theory

Its a bunch of noise, BTC will be fine. Normal banks and investments firms have a ton more to worry about.

FULL EPISODE with DAN BONEH:

Be ready for quantum

The hard part is migrating

你知道吗?现在还有一些BTC的老OG觉得量子威胁不存在

Lattice-based cryptography

Worth pairing this with what actually happened three weeks ago. On July 30, 594 bitcoin left about 500 wallets in 25 minutes. Not quantum. Certain Coldcard firmware had silently fallen back from the hardware RNG to a software pseudo-random generator while creating seeds, collapsing the search space from 128 bits to roughly 40. Post-quantum addresses would not have saved those wallets. Dice entropy, a passphrase, or multisig did. The migration is the right project. It just isn't the nearest failure mode.

Banks should be more worried about it .🤔

Prof. Boneh was a little bit wrong!

Wow. Thanks to Dan Boneh for that. website closed: the winner could break a 15 bit ECC key on a 133 QBit hardware. Bitcoin uses 256 Bit ECC keys for its cyptography. Google recently made claims they need 1000 QBits to break Bitcoin cyptography.

$NAT is currently solving the more pressing bitcoin problem as a secondary subsidy protecting Bitcoin. Please do check us out @natgmi and see what we are talking about.

#IYKYK

🔼 Time is money.

That solves the caps lock problem however 😏

While it’s the new Y2K, we spent billions preventing that one from causing widespread fallout. Bitcoin devs must do the same.

Strong take

Yes, but the moving part is what is difficult. You need hundreds of thousands of people from all over the world to migrate at the same time. The narrative of "but we will solve it" is the delay that will cause the prolonging of the attack surface to be visible.

@iamdaveparker We need this FUD to last longer pls - what will left to say otherwise 😂😂

ロストコインも休眠ウォレットもどうするかは言ってないよね?

WATCH: @Ethan_Heilman on why quantum is coming "this decade" and what it means for #Bitcoin 🔥

@Regooks “Anyone who is worried about quantum effecting blockchains is insane” Bitcoin network is not encrypted.. only wallets are… Not sure if he confused about it or just unclear

Good to see a sober take

You dont need a cryptographer to answer this. You need a politician. We arent short of solutions. We are short of consensus. No solution will be implemented that protect all BTC before its too late.

這種專家只會出一張嘴,理論說的天花亂墜,現實呢?他有實際硬體實現了什麼 ?

"we just" -- there you go.

請問現實量子他懂多少,AI都還剛開始能用,量子世界是人累科技的最終研究,量子世界太難

量子威胁更像升级路线的问题,地址迁移和协议治理做好,安全性就有修复空间。

buy zcash man to end your agony

The quantum panic always skips the boring part: address formats can be upgraded the same way TLS versions get upgraded. Nobody panics when their browser silently switches ciphers.

Those who doubt will be left behind. Just as history has shown.
