This road connects Gujarat with Thane, Pune, and other parts of Maharashtra, making it a vital transport corridor. Now, the police are repairing the road with whatever resources they have. People are paying the price for the political fight between Shiv Sena MLA Pratap Sarnaik and BJP MLA Narendra Mehta. Surprisingly, the so called “Inframan” is letting this happen.

A huge mobility leap for the Mumbai Metropolitan Region. India’s largest and longest urban road tunnel, the Thane–Borivali Twin Tunnel Project, has just crossed a historic milestone. MMRDA has successfully completed the Thane-side portal excavation and lowered the 13.34-metre single-shield Tunnel Boring Machine cutterhead, the largest ever deployed in India for an urban infrastructure project. This milestone signals the start of the actual tunnelling phase of this pathbreaking project. The 11.8-kilometre underground twin tunnel will seamlessly connect Thane’s Ghodbunder Road with the Western Express Highway in Borivali, cutting travel time from 60–90 minutes to just 15 minutes, and redefining how lakhs of Mumbaikars move. Passing beneath the eco-sensitive Sanjay Gandhi National Park, the tunnels are being built using the most advanced TBM technology to ensure safe, efficient and eco-friendly construction with minimal ground disturbance. Each tunnel will feature three lanes, including a dedicated emergency lane, with cross-passages every 300 metres. The tunnels will be equipped with advanced ventilation systems, modern firefighting equipment, smoke detectors and illuminated LED signboards. Once completed, this landmark project will drastically reduce travel time, ease congestion, lower emissions and deliver a faster, cleaner and smarter commute for citizens. The successful lowering of the TBM cutterhead is not just an engineering achievement. It is proof that Mumbai is ready to take on the most complex underground mobility challenges, head-on. The assault on an elderly Marathi man by an Ola driver in Thane has turned political. While the two Shiv Sena factions united to track down the driver and thrash him, now the MNS has jumped in and is targeting Ola drivers across Thane. MNS workers were seen stopping taxi drivers, checking their Marathi fluency and beating those who could not speak the local language. MNS leader Avinash Jadhav landed the site of assault and was seen harassing the Ola drivers over the Marathi language issue. MNS leader was also seen slapping cab drivers who could not speak Marathi. The issue has taken a local vs outsider turn as the victim is a Marathi while the taxi driver who beat him is non-Marathi. A video of the Ola cab driver assaulting the old man in full public view had gone viral on social media on Wednesday. The incident took place outside a popular mall when the old man reportedly objected to the taxi driver spitting on the road. An argument followed, and the enraged taxi driver was seen beating the old man while his wife tried to save him. Taxi driver was seen hitting the man with a stone, who fell down on the road and sustained injuries. As Soon as the video circulated on social media, Shiv Sena workers traced the driver, thrashed him and handed him over to the police. Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde himself took cognizance of the assault on the elderly man. He released a video directing the Thane Commissioner to book the cab driver for attempt to murder. "If a person is brutally assaulted merely for pointing out that someone is littering, it will not be accepted at any cost," Shinde said. Thane is the stronghold of Eknath Shinde. Following the deputy chief minister's directive, Vartak Nagar Police arrested the accused Ola driver and booked him for attempt to murder.

Soon: South Mumbai–Thane in just 25 minutes MMRDA has commenced construction of the Elevated Eastern Freeway Extension, a 13.9 km, fully elevated 6-lane high-speed corridor that will dramatically reduce travel time between South Mumbai and Thane to 25–30 minutes, while easing daily congestion on the Eastern Express Highway (EEH)—one of Mumbai’s busiest arterial routes serving lakhs of commuters every day. The corridor will run from Anand Nagar, Thane to Chheda Nagar, Ghatkopar, with key links at Mulund, Airoli, JVLR, Vikhroli, Kanjurmarg, Mankhurd and Ghatkopar. In Thane, the corridor will merge seamlessly with the Anand Nagar–Saket Elevated Road near the erstwhile Mulund Octroi Naka, forming a continuous high-speed route. It will also provide seamless onward connectivity to the Samruddhi Expressway. Once completed, the project will significantly improve traffic flow, lower emissions, and offer a faster, more reliable and greener commute to lakhs of citizens, while boosting economic activity across the MMR. As part of MMRDA’s commitment to sustainable development, and in consultation with experts and green activists, the Vikhroli–Ghatkopar stretch was realigned to save 127 Pink Trumpet trees. A total of 4,175 new trees will be planted as compensatory green cover. MMRDA has achieved a major construction milestone on the 13.9-km Elevated Eastern Freeway Extension (EFE), with the successful erection of the two Main Trusses of its Segment Launcher, each 59 metres long and weighing 160 tonnes, on the busy Eastern Express Highway. The entire complex operation was completed within a record 4-hour window, with the actual erection of both trusses taking just 1 hour. Redefining Connectivity: Mumbai’s Journey Towards Integrated Mobility Delighted to inaugurate, flag off, and unveil the stone plaque of 'Metro Line 9: Dahisar (East) to Kashigaon (Phase-1)', ‘Metro Line 2(B) Deshbhakt N. G. Acharya Udyan - Diamond Garden to Maharashtra Nagar, Mandale (Phase-1), and e-Bhoomipujan of the Automated Rapid Transit System (Pod Taxi) Project for Bandra-Kurla Complex, and the launch of 'Tunnel Boring Machine - Nayak' for the 'Thane-Borivali Underground Tunnel Project' in Mumbai, marking a significant step towards seamless connectivity and transformative urban mobility. Metro services have commenced today on the 4.7 km corridor from Dahisar East to Kashigaon, with four stations along the route, enhancing connectivity and making travel between Mumbai and Mira-Bhayandar faster and more convenient. This project, with an investment of approximately ₹6607 crore, will reduce the current travel time from 1-2 hours to nearly 30 minutes. In the upcoming phases, this corridor will be integrated with Metro Line 3, enabling seamless travel from Mira-Bhayandar to Colaba. With over 100 kilometres of metro lines now operational, Mumbai has emerged as the second-largest metro network in the country after Delhi. In the coming years, the network will expand further with the completion of several ongoing projects, strengthening connectivity across the city. The first phase of Metro Line 2B, spanning 5.6 km with five stations, is now operational from today. Once the rest of the phases are fully completed, this transformative project will seamlessly connect the East-West and North-South corridors, enabling smoother and more efficient travel across the city. Notably, this will be the first metro line to connect with the Harbour Line, marking the beginning of a new chapter in Mumbai’s integrated urban transport network. The e-Bhoomipujan of the innovative ‘Pod Taxi’ project was undertaken in the BKC area, marking a significant step towards strengthening last-mile connectivity. This automated system will enable commuters to reach within 100–150 metres of their destinations, enhancing convenience and efficiency. The Thane-Borivali Twin Tunnel Project is a landmark initiative that will significantly decongest Mumbai and Thane cities. Spanning 11.84 km, including a 10.25 km twin tunnel stretch, this transformative corridor is designed for efficiency and safety, featuring two traffic lanes and one emergency lane in each tunnel. The tunnels are being constructed in a safe, efficient, and eco-friendly manner, keeping in mind the ecological sensitivity of the Sanjay Gandhi National Park. 🆘🚨🌲🌳🌴Save Ganeshkhind Road’s Heritage Trees — Stop the New Road Widening 🌲🌳🌴🆘🚨 For the second time in 2 years, Pune is watching the same shadow creep over #Ganeshkhind Road. Over 500 mature and heritage trees - banyans, tamarinds, peepals and old-growth giants are again under threat because of a fresh push to widen the road from 36 m to 45 m. These trees are not “obstacles.” They are living infrastructure. They cool our city, anchor its biodiversity, protect its micro-climate, and hold centuries of history in their roots. Mature trees cannot be “replaced” by saplings, and transplanting them has already proven to be fatal in earlier phases across Pune. The December 2023 court directions had clearly asked authorities to follow a sustainable mobility plan and avoid unnecessary tree felling. Yet the same project is being revived, risking another wave of irreversible ecological damage. Instead of widening roads for more private vehicles, Pune needs the opposite: • Better metro ridership, • Reliable bus frequency, • Safe footpaths and cycling tracks, • Efficient last-mile connectivity, • And maintainance of the existing road and flyover and Metro Line 3 infrastructure. We, the citizens, demand: 🍀Immediate cancellation of the proposed Phase-2 road widening on Ganeshkhind Road. The Growth Hub will offer a clear roadmap to harness this potential. Major infrastructure projects like Pune’s international airport and ring road are expected to greatly boost the region’s economy. Maharashtra is now competing on the global stage. In this context, ensuring a hassle-free business environment is essential, and it calls for a change in overall mindset.
