How inspiring, bipolar needn't be a permanent fixture on the mantle piece. Metabolic therapies are an enabler, providing people with an outlook to life that brings clarity and confidence back into their field of vision. Huge fan of your work @Metabolic_Mind!

@GeorgiaEdeMD Guys, I really worry about the way you are presenting this. Imo, you are hyping it to the roof. I am on a ketogenic diet and it has the tremendous advantage of stopping binge eating and even losing weight on a psychiatric medication that f. up the insuline regulation. 1/n

Considering ketogenic therapy for bipolar disorder or other serious mental illnesses? This powerful story from Shannon Harwood shows how ketogenic therapy helped her achieve full remission from bipolar 2 disorder after 35 years of recurring episodes, failed medications, and misdiagnoses. In this video, Shannon shares her personal journey: from undiagnosed symptoms in her teens, to years of misdiagnosis and ineffective treatments, to discovering ketogenic therapy at age 48. Within just five days of starting, she experienced a dramatic shift in her mental clarity, energy, and overall functioning. You'll hear: - How bipolar 2 disorder often goes undiagnosed or misdiagnosed as major depression - The impact of living with unrelenting depressive episodes for decades - How medications helped—but also introduced serious side effects - Why she turned to ketogenic therapy and how it changed everything - What it means to find root cause healing instead of just symptom management Shannon is now off all psychiatric medications and has remained symptom-free for years. Her story is one of hope, resilience, and the possibility of full recovery. If you or someone you love is navigating severe mental illness and looking for new options, this is a must-watch. #MetabolicHealth #KetogenicTherapy #BipolarDisorder #MentalHealthRecovery #MetabolicMind #Bipolar2 #HealingIsPossible #NutritionAndMentalHealth #RootCauseHealing Resources Mentioned: - Get better acquainted with Shannon’s mental health strategies at her THINK+SMART profile: - Learn more about the THINK+SMART framework: a self-guided, community-based framework that helps you develop a customized metabolic approach to mental health: Follow our channel for more information and education from Bret Scher, MD, FACC, including interviews with leading experts in Metabolic Psychiatry. Mitochondria do more than power our cells: they shape how we think, feel, and experience the world. In this interview, Martin Picard breaks down his new research that illuminates how mitochondria affect brain energy, brain networks, mental health, and ultimately, our quality of life. Dr. Picard walks us through his team's revolutionary brain mapping study, which examined over 700 sections of the human brain to uncover how mitochondria are distributed and specialized by brain region and cell type. The results have profound implications for how we understand, cognitive decline, and psychiatric disorders like depression bipolar disorder and schizophrenia. In this episode, you'll learn: - Why mitochondrial health is essential for brain function - How different brain regions rely on different types of mitochondria - Why people respond so differently to the same metabolic dysfunction - How future scans and biomarkers could help us measure brain energy non-invasively - What it means to think of ourselves as “energetic beings” rather than just biological machines When it comes to metabolic psychiatry, mitochondria are a key player. This research is a huge step towards better understanding these tiny organelles and the role they play in mental health and cognitive function. A seismic shift is underway in psychiatry, moving beyond talk therapy and pharmaceuticals to target the very foundation of mental health: metabolic function. Leading this revolution are pioneers like Dr. Christopher Palmer of Harvard Psychiatry. For over two decades, he has focused on the most challenging cases—patients resistant to psychotropic medications. His groundbreaking protocol is strikingly simple, yet profoundly effective: a ketogenic diet. By placing patients into ketosis through a diet of meat and low-starch vegetables, Dr. Palmer has documented the reversal of conditions once deemed lifelong, including: • Major Depression • Anxiety Disorders • Bipolar Disorder • And in rare cases, even Schizophrenia The mechanism? While the official explanation points to improved mitochondrial health, a compelling alternative theory suggests that removing carbohydrates strengthens the immune system. This allows the body to finally subdue chronic, undiagnosed infections that may be driving neurological dysfunction. By halting the constant processing of sugars, the body can redirect its resources toward regeneration and fighting these underlying inflammatory and infectious threats. This isn't just a dietary trend; it's a paradigm shift. It reframes "mental illness" as a potential symptom of metabolic and immune system dysregulation. The work of Dr. Palmer, alongside researchers like Georgia Ede and Stanford's Annelise Barron, is offering not just management, but the possibility of genuine recovery. The future of mental health treatment may not be in a pill bottle, but on our plates.

$50 million! That’s the size of a new privately funded donation by the Baszucki Family to launch the Metabolic Health Coalition, a group of scientists and healthcare professionals committed to addressing the root causes of our metabolic health crisis. As both a PhD scientist and new MD and chronic disease patient, this hits home for me. Because one thing I know for certain: the system we’ve built isn’t designed to prioritize metabolic health. It’s optimized for treatments that maintain the business model—pharmaceuticals, procedures, and quick fixes—not long-term root-cause solutions. 🚨This coalition is different. It’s a move toward unbiased research and widespread education—for both clinicians and patients. It’s a serious effort to bring logic, science, and systems-level change to a crisis that’s been swept under the rug for too long. It’s sad that we need disruption, and that true change is being built of the backs of people like me and my friends and colleagues who became passionate about metabolic health because we or a loved one suffered in a dysfunction system. 🚨But that sad truth is also the reason this metabolic health movement is so robust. Enough have suffered. Let’s shake things up. 1⃣First, follow Coalition for Metabolic Health for further updates. 2⃣Then, check out the metabolic health coalition website (👇) 3⃣Finally, share if you care *Some members of the scientific advisory board and supporting experts you may know and love...
