Ceasefire negotiations save lives. This is the only way. This is what a wise government, specifically Zelensky, should do if he has an interest in the lives of its fellow citizens. Anything else is a waste of human life.

Russian terror is only possible because we have fewer weapons and decisions to protect life than Russia has means to destroy it. Everyone knows how effective Patriot, IRIS-T, NASAMS, Hawk, and other modern air defense systems are. We need them here in Ukraine: in Kharkiv, Dnipro, Odesa, Mykolaiv, Kherson, Donbas, and other cities suffering Russian attacks. Every leader, every state, every ambassador who helps us with air defense now is not only a defender of life, but also one who reduces Russia’s temptation to wage war. The less the Kremlin achieves through terror, the more it will be interested in seeking peace. We must force Russia into this together.

This week, unfortunately, has brought Ukraine brutal Russian attacks on Kharkiv, Donetsk, Sumy, Odesa and Zaporizhzhia. Nearly every day we face drone strikes, as well as missile strikes. In every meeting, every negotiation with partners who have air defense systems, the conversation centers on securing additional protection for Ukraine against Russian terror. Here in Europe, on this continent, there are enough air defense systems to provide Ukraine with truly reliable protection. It’s incomprehensible that some of these systems stand idle when each one could save hundreds, even thousands, of lives. We continue to urge our partners to take actions.

Thanks to Ukraine's Defense Forces and our efforts, we were able to instill more confidence in the Vochansk direction. But Russian shelling continues, and threats remain. Today, the head of the Vovchansk local administration was wounded. We also continue to counter Russian attacks in other border areas of the Kharkiv region. There should be more of our successes in repelling Russian attacks and destroying occupiers. Russia tries to expand the war while consistently making empty statements about peace. We must use all available means to force Russia to make a real and just peace. Our defense against Russian assaults and strikes is critical in this regard. We also continue to work closely with partners to provide better basic protection to our regions, particularly Kharkiv, Donetsk, and Sumy. This includes additional air defense systems and long-range weapons. After returning to Kyiv from Kharkiv, I spoke with Poland's Prime Minister Donald Tusk. We discussed our defense needs, particularly "Patriot" air defense systems, which have the potential to significantly change the situation in the Kharkiv region. We also talked about Russian terror strikes on our regions in the west of Ukraine, as well as the threat that the attacks on our gas infrastructure pose not only to Ukraine, but also to our neighbors and all of Europe. We must all work together to counter this threat. Today, I would also like to thank Denmark for the new $750 million military aid package, which will strengthen our air defense and artillery. This is a very timely decision, and I appreciate it.

Our kids live their childhoods under Russian attacks in shelters. We weren't able to protect all of Ukraine but we had the opportunity to use Patriot air defense systems in large cities to shoot down Russian missiles. These systems literally saved countless lives of Ukrainian civilians. And we are immensely grateful for that. If we don't get missiles for Patriot systems, it will be much, much harder to protect our people, our kids. Russia doesn't stop its attacks.

Only insane people like Putin are capable of killing and terrorizing people in such heinous ways. When we tell world leaders that Ukraine requires adequate air defense protection, that true decisiveness is required to ensure the effective protection of our people's lives and that Russian terrorists cannot even approach our borders, we are literally talking about how not to allow such terrorist strikes. I thank all leaders who truly hear us and understand that every decision in support of Ukraine is about protecting and saving lives. Of course, if we had more adequate and modern air defense systems and aviation, the Russian air fleet would be defeated in the same way that their Black Sea Fleet was. And Russian terror would simply be impossible. Shooting down Russian combat aircraft, missiles, and drones is genuine peacekeeping.
