Kyle Shanahan explained how Deebo Samuel did a lot of posturing to make it seem as if things weren’t cool between him and the 49ers in order to get more money during contract negotiations back in 2022: “Deebo’s always been one of the closest guys we’ve been to, just... relationship-wise. When Deebo went through his contract negotiations, I’ll try not to put words in his mouth, but I think he thought it’d be advantageous to make it look like there was a little bit of a battle. Sometimes that helps, sometimes it doesn’t. Those OTAs, I was at Deebo’s house on the eighth OTA day, and I was talking about how all that was just BS. He came to minicamp. We had a great summer together. I think he signed the first day back at training camp. We got over that in OTAs. That was just stuff from the negotiating periods back in April and stuff. Denzel Washington’s epic monologue towards the end of Training Day was largely improvised on set. Director Antoine Fuqua was so blown away by his performance, he says he thinks he "forgot to yell cut”. He explains… “That’s Denzel. He was just in his zone. I mean, that was one of those moment...people talk about AI. Those are the moments where you go...it's a great tool. It's gonna be a great tool, I think...but the emotion, and the moment that an actor can bring - you can't predict that. That's something that's just inside of Denzel. And when that came out, I was just like - I hope I got it. I just turned to my operator - who was shaking- I looked over at the guy - I was like, “please tell me you got that.” Because that was the take. That was it. There was no other take - I mean, how do you tell an actor like that, that that wasn't good enough? …He walked over to me, and he just had this look in his eyes. I was like, “you good?” He said, “you good?” I said, “Yeah…” Some of that was in the script, but he flipped it the way he did it. "Putting cases on all you." He kind of added some things in there. And then he just went into a whole other zone with the whole King Kong thing- with Pelican Bay - Denzel started that. That was Denzel. That was him, man. I think that was a bit disappointing on our side because I think we know how to shut this down because we used to do these kinds of things and we couldn't do it today because, again, like I said, we forgot. I can go through the years, but between 2022 to 2024, we pretty much just made sure that everything was strat-based and we just charged people and hoped that we had better mechanics. Then around 2025, I think we took a look at the year and with how good Yoru was, we just tried to leverage the fact that Yoru could be everywhere on the map and we tried to make sure that we understood the game on a micro level a lot better. Maybe for all you know, it came back to bite us in the ass today. What we needed to do was win the fight and then [inaudible], and we used to be very good at that. Kyle Shanahan on Curtis Robinson: “He's really worked to get better each year, and he's a very talented guy. I think when he came here, he hadn't played in a system like this for a while. It took him a little bit to kind of pick that up, but we so believed in him as a guy and his talent level that after a year, you could start to see it clicking. He became a big asset on special teams, and last year was the first time that we really believed he was going to step in there, really contribute at linebacker at a high level. It was actually kind of a sad story, but it was about 20 minutes before he tours ACL, was the first time that I told him he'd be starting that week. It was his first start in his career, and he had earned it. We were going to move him ahead of Demetrius Flannigan-Fowles at the time. “The idea was, when he (Vincent D'Onofrio) decides to reveal himself they did a special version of his makeup that was very stretchable. What he does is he grabs the back of his head and he just starts tugging on it. The idea was he would pull it as far as he could, and then we would take over stretching the image, making it appear to be distorting in a way that it physically couldn’t. Then basically when I shot Vince I just kept urging him to pull harder, and harder, and harder until finally the final take he just pulled it until the makeup just ripped. We said, ‘Okay, we got it.’ That’s what’s in the show because it’s really tugging on his face the maximum it could be done, and then we just extended that. I think it's a little bit of all of it. I have to make sure that there's environments that the ball finds him. I think he's got to make sure that he can't rely on that to get shots, as well. vernon about trainee minghao 🐻‍❄ when hyung first came in as a trainee, he was quite the rebellious type, visually. he had a shaved head and did breakdancing, that's why i found him quite cool back then 🎱 when i first came to korea, i was the closest with vernon 🐻‍❄ i really liked him back then as a trainee because when i was younger, i thought that breakdancing was very cool and i wanted to do it too but my parents didn't let me. then a guy came in actually knowing how to do it, with his head shaved, and it was just my style. since he came from china, we often went to konkuk univ station to eat some food from his hometown. that's when he introduced mala to me and that was even before mala craze took off. it was so unique and i thought that maybe there's a reason why people don't eat mala in korea but it just suddenly took off!

vernon about trainee minghao 🐻‍❄ when hyung first came in as a trainee, he was quite the rebellious type, visually. he had a shaved head and did breakdancing, that's why i found him quite cool back then 🎱 when i first came to korea, i was the closest with vernon 🐻‍❄ i really liked him back then as a trainee because when i was younger, i thought that breakdancing was very cool and i wanted to do it too but my parents didn't let me. then a guy came in actually knowing how to do it, with his head shaved, and it was just my style. since he came from china, we often went to konkuk univ station to eat some food from his hometown. that's when he introduced mala to me and that was even before mala craze took off. it was so unique and i thought that maybe there's a reason why people don't eat mala in korea but it just suddenly took off!

I sometimes like suppose there was an important scene that we were shooting emotionally very important for #BattleOfGalwan and he was there even though it was he wasn’t in the shot. He was there at 10:30 in the morning not just one day I think there was three days in a row that he was there that early. I have lot respect for that man for having so much devotion for his work.
