After the fight, Leonard was asked whether he could have lasted 15 rounds. He replied, “I was exhausted in the 12th round, but I would have found a way to go three more rounds with Hagler.” HBO commentator Larry Merchant then posed an interesting question: could Hagler have insisted that the bout be contested over the traditional 15-round distance instead?
