In this archival footage from 1953, trailblazing trans woman Christine Jorgensen is named “Woman of the Year” by the Scandinavian Societies of Greater New York. Jorgensen became one of the first trans people to achieve international fame after her gender-affirming medical transition made headlines around the world. She became a visible advocate for trans people and helped challenge public perceptions of gender. Just a few decades earlier, homosexuality was widely classified as a mental illness by medical institutions, while trans people faced intense stigma, discrimination, and a lack of access to affirming healthcare. Jorgensen's visibility helped bring conversations about gender identity into the public sphere and paved the way for future generations. The award was presented by Dr. Harry R. Berglund, and following her return to the US, Jorgensen continued receiving medical and hormone care from pioneering endocrinologist Dr. Harry Benjamin.

Johnson. 🌸🏳️‍⚧️ A Black trans activist, drag queen and self-described "saint of Christopher Street," Marsha was at the very front of the modern LGBTQ+ rights movement. She was there at the Stonewall uprising in 1969, marched in the first Pride the following year, and co-founded STAR alongside Sylvia Rivera, giving food, shelter and family to homeless queer and trans youth when almost no one else would. Later, as the AIDS crisis tore through her community, she showed up again, caring for the sick and fighting with ACT UP.

An independent UK bookshop is inviting customers to vandalise Harry Potter books to raise money for trans healthcare. The Bookish Type, trans-owned bookstore in Leeds and the only trans woman owned bookshop in England, is offering visitors the chance to deface copies of Harry Potter for just 25p. All proceeds from the initiative will go towards supporting gender-affirming healthcare costs.

Trans activist Alexandra Billings has recalled her experience working on 'Grey's Anatomy' in a touching tribute to the late Eric Dane. Posting to her social media on 20 February, Billings spoke about how Dane helped fight to keep her trans storyline in the show as authentic as possible. Billings played trans woman Donna Gibson in the season three episode 'Where the Boys Are', which aired in 2006. In the video, she recounts how Dane asked her questions about her own transition, listening intently so he knew how to hand the scene they were filming together. She continues to talk about how Dane fought to keep part of her storyline in the episode when it was cut. She said: "That was extraordinary... Eric Dane showed everyone on that set what a true ally looks like. It’s not just talk.”
