Houston, Texas — Police Officers were dispatched to a crash on the freeway and learned that there had been a minor vehicle crash involving three vehicles. Two of the vehicles remained on the scene however a third vehicle had fled the location. Officers then moved the crash off the freeway and put a general broadcast over the radio for the possible third vehicle – a green SUV. Additional officers were able to locate the green SUV vehicle in the area and officers made contact with the driver. As the officers attempted to detain the driver of the green SUV for the crash investigation, the driver lifted his shirt up, reached for a visible gun in his waistband and pulled out the weapon. Two officers then discharged their duty weapons more than once, striking the suspect. Officers began to render aid to the suspect until Houston Fire Department paramedics arrived. The suspect was pronounced deceased at the scene.

Waters, alongside Undersheriff Shawn Coarsey, joined Chief of Investigation Alan Parker to provide details leading up to the murder of one of our Corrections Officers. At approximately 1:20 a.m., in the 12900 block of Duval Road, a black Mustang occupied by a black male (suspect) and a female, were involved in a violent dispute. During the argument, the suspect was observed exiting the vehicle from the passenger seat and walking around to the driver’s side. The suspect then placed a black handgun on the hood of the vehicle and removed the female from the driver’s seat. The male proceeded to batter the female, violently throwing her against the vehicle and the ground. During the commotion, off-duty Corrections Officer Bradley McNew #7697, who just finished his shift, heard the disturbance and went to check on the female victim. The suspect approached Officer McNew, stating it was a family matter, then re-engaged with the female before pointing the gun in Officer McNew’s direction. The suspect and female eventually returned to the vehicle. As they left the scene, the suspect was observed hanging out of the window, firing the firearm, and ultimately striking Officer McNew. He was transported to a local hospital where he succumbed to his injuries. This is an ongoing investigation, and we ask the public to remain vigilant and consider the suspect armed and dangerous. The vehicle was reported heading northbound on Main Street towards Nassau County. It is a 2000s black Mustang with North Carolina license plate RHL-4285. The victim, later identified as Julien Emmanuel Cruz (DOB: 5/18/1992), was transported to a local hospital, where he later succumbed to his injuries. The investigation revealed that the victim and suspect were involved in a verbal and physical altercation on the sidewalk prior to the shooting. During the dispute, the suspect retrieved a firearm from his vehicle and shot the victim. The suspect fled the scene in his vehicle, which was later located by patrol units at the 200 block of East New Hampshire Avenue. Jean Gabriel Borja Gil De La Madr (DOB: 10/29/1988) was later arrested and charged with Second Degree Murder with a Firearm. This marks the third homicide of 2026.

NEW: Michigan man narrowly survives after running his dirt bike into a Jeep while attempting a jump on a sand dune. Josh Vodry had a group of half a dozen spotters at the top of the dune who all failed to notice an incoming jeep. Vodry's bike hit the jeep, sending him flying over the vehicle and into the sand. The motorcyclist broke his back, punctured his lung, and got a concussion. The dirt bike narrowly missed the head of the driver of the jeep.

On March 16, 2026, at approximately 11:15 a.m., Dallas Police officers assigned to the Project Safe Neighborhood Task Force located a vehicle that was reported stolen in an armed carjacking on March 15. The officers called for additional units and AIR-1 to maintain visual contact with the vehicle before attempting a traffic stop in the 12300 block of Greenville Avenue. As officers approached and ordered the driver to exit the vehicle, the car took off, and the officers immediately began to pursue it. With AIR-1 overhead, the suspect drove the wrong way down Greenville Avenue, and officers chased the driver onto I-635 with the suspect’s speed approaching 120 miles per hour. The suspect exited the freeway at Jupiter Road and continued to speed through residential areas. The suspect sped through a construction zone, again reaching speeds over 100 miles per hour until he exited on Town East Boulevard and headed into the City of Mesquite, driving into oncoming traffic into the 2000 block of Town East Boulevard. With traffic building ahead, the suspect attempted to drive over the median and his vehicle became disabled. Dallas Police officers, assisted by officers from Mesquite and deputies from the Dallas Sheriff’s Office, took the suspect into custody. He was identified as 46-year-old Alfredo Hernandez and charged with Unauthorized Use of a Motor Vehicle, a state jail felony; Evading Arrest or Detention with a Vehicle, a third-degree felony; Manufacture / Delivery of a Controlled Substance, a second-degree felony; and Unlawful Possession of a Firearm by Felon, a third-degree felony. On March 16, 2026, at approximately 11:15 a.m., Dallas Police officers assigned to the Project Safe Neighborhood Task Force located a vehicle that was reported stolen in an armed carjacking on March 15. The officers called for additional units and AIR-1 to maintain visual contact with the vehicle before attempting a traffic stop in the 12300 block of Greenville Avenue. As officers approached and ordered the driver to exit the vehicle, the car took off, and the officers immediately began to pursue it. With AIR-1 overhead, the suspect drove the wrong way down Greenville Avenue, and officers chased the driver onto I-635 with the suspect’s speed approaching 120 miles per hour. The suspect exited the freeway at Jupiter Road and continued to speed through residential areas.
