Well, the laws of physics are completely computable. They can fit inside a Turing machine or computer, and a computer can simulate the laws of physics with arbitrary accuracy, limited only by the specific power of that computer. If you increase the power of that computer, you can simulate them more accurately. So humans already simulate—in our minds we simulate—and through our computers we simulate the weather, we simulate quasars, we even simulate human systems. We simulate the economy. We simulate all kinds of things. So anything that can be understood, we can understand in our minds. This is something the AGI people get wrong when they talk about superintelligence. There is nothing out there that can understand something fundamentally that we can’t understand. Accelerating. We are “well advanced on that curve” with a “small number of years” remaining before AI surpasses human cognitive capability across most things. Amodei: “We’re increasingly close to what I’ve called a country of geniuses in a data center.” Not one system. A coordinated set of AI agents, each more capable than most humans at most things, running in parallel, never sleeping, never losing focus, coordinating at speeds no biological intelligence can match. The ceiling on human progress has always been simple. Genius is rare and time is finite. That constraint is gone. We are not approaching the ceiling of intelligence. Elon Musk plans to solve the hardest problem in artificial intelligence by leaving the planet. Musk: “Within a few years, we will be launching solar powered AI satellites, because space is really the source of immense power, and then you don’t need to take up any room on Earth.” Right now every AI company on Earth is locked in the same fight. Power, land, water, cooling, permits, grid capacity. Building a data center means negotiating with utilities, with municipalities, with infrastructure designed for a world that no longer exists. Musk is not trying to win that fight. He is making it irrelevant. Earth intercepts roughly one two-billionth of the sun’s output. The rest has been pouring into empty space for four and a half billion years. A panel in orbit sees no night, no clouds, no atmosphere.
