Nobody watching this knew they were witnessing the end of an era. In February 9, 1980, Bon Scott appeared with AC/DC on the Spanish TV show Aplauso, performing “Beating Around the Bush,” “Girls Got Rhythm” and “Highway to Hell.” It would become Bon Scott’s final television appearance with AC/DC. Just 10 days later, on February 19, 1980, he was gone. He was only 33 years old. Watching this footage more than 46 years later carries a whole different weight when you know what happened. The centuries of conflict between the English, Scottish, Welsh and Irish is not a model of successful “diversity”. It is proof of, despite our ethnic proximity and shared Christian faith, just how difficult it is for tribes to live in peace. It was hard enough with the native populations of the British Isles. It is impossible to have a cohesive society with all the foreign colonies we have imported into our midst. We are not at the start of this experiment. We are in the middle of it, and it is going horribly. It has to end.
