The team in charge of developing Lost Odyssey included ex-devs from the Shadow Hearts series so the influence is visible on the game. Masahiro Honma was Battle Programmer on Shadow Hearts: Covenant and Lost Odyssey

I wrote the first post believing I made sure to avoid implying Lost Odyssey was the first to make the ring system, but it might have been ESL moment where using *its*in "came up with *its* ring system" can still be construed as being the first to do it. I'll do better next time

This was already on Legend of Dragoon way back in 1999

I did not write anything in my post that would imply action elements didn't exist before. I even followed up saying Lost Odyssey had ex-Shadow Hearts devs, a game series that had its own ring system

I did not ever said or implied Lost Odyssey was the first to do it. I said it came up with its ring system. I even have a follow-up tweet I posted at the same time explaining that ex-Shadow Hearts devs worked on Lost Odyssey

When did I say no game did this before Lost Odyssey? I literally followed up on the original post saying ex-Shadow Hearts devs worked on the game and it had its own ring system

Lost Odyssey is a game that really needs to make it to other platforms as well. The short visual novel stories are a masterpiece that everyone should read/listen to

Expeditioners, Here’s an extended combat clip from early in the game, featuring a Nevron called Évèque. This footage contains no story spoilers—just pure combat. 🤝 Évèque begins combat with multiple shields, meaning the first hits in combat will be blocked. This Expeditioner uses the free-aim system to target its weak point, which would usually be an excellent opening move. However, due to the shields, the impact is minimal. That said, thanks to an equipped Picto, the attack at least applies stackable burn. You can see the full power of parries and the way that perfect timing can shape your encounters. For both parrying and dodging, you’ll rely on audiovisual cues from enemies to master the timing. These change quite drastically between enemies, the speed that they are attacking, or the spell they are casting. When Évèque builds up chroma, it can use it to unleash a devastating attack that can be much harder to counter. The game offers three difficulty modes. Story Mode is more forgiving when it comes to dodge and parry timing. Expeditioner and Expert modes are more challenging, and increase the damage inflicted by enemies. As you progress, you’ll unlock new skills and Pictos, which will expand your moveset and enhance the effects of your dodges and parries. Damage is increased or bonuses are applied upon landing perfect hits, and for accessibility, an auto-QTE setting is available for these. What would you like to see more of next?
