Macross: Scrambled Valkyrie (Winkysoft/1993) is a visually stunning and fast-paced 2D horizontal shoot 'em up for the Super Famicom. It stands out for pushing the hardware to its limits, offering gorgeous 16-bit graphics and smooth scaling effects. Remains Japan-exclusive primarily due to decades of international copyright gridlock, but can...

If I had to pick one of the greatest PC Engine games, this title simply can’t be left out: Castlevania: Rondo of Blood. Even considering that it was released in 1993, it’s still praised for its incredible level of polish, with outstanding graphics, sound, opening sequence, voice acting, controls, and multiple branching paths. The CD format played a huge role in making all of that possible, which naturally made it stand out compared to competing consoles at the time like the Super Famicom and Mega Drive. If you ever get the chance, it’s definitely a game worth playing at least once.

If I had to pick Capcom’s greatest 2D beat ’em up, my choices would easily be Dungeons & Dragons: Shadow over Mystara and Alien vs. Predator. Capcom’s original beat ‘em ups are fantastic, but there’s something even more exciting about seeing the company work with iconic licensed franchises. The idea of humans and Predators joining forces to fight the Aliens is simply too good to fail. Everything about this game is top-notch—the graphics, sound, controls, and even its faithful recreation of the atmosphere from the films. It’s a true masterpiece of the genre. Sadly, because of licensing issues, it was never released on home consoles, making it one of Capcom’s most disappointing “what could have been” titles.

Space Manbow for the MSX2 (Konami/1989). Considered one of the absolute greatest and most technically impressive shoot-'em-ups for the MSX2 computer. Built from the ground up for the hardware, it pushes the system to its limits and also has a stellar SCC/chip soundtrack. Originally a Japan-exclusive release, it was later digitally ported for the Wii Virtual Console in 2009 and is available on mobile platforms and Project EGG, as well as a minigame (first level) inside Ganbare Goemon DS (2005).

Taito’s spectacular Warrior Blade: Rastan Saga Episode III (1992) was built on dual-monitor hardware similar to Darius II, and only released in Japan. The two screens sit side-by-side to create a very wide playfield— but the tile-mapping chip could only address a limited number of graphics tiles. For static scenes (cutscenes etc) the two screens did not need matching tiles. The team exploited this by loading unique graphics only on the second screen for those sequences. It was a small but clever way to squeeze more art into a game that was already pushing the hardware’s limits. The result is one of the more technically ambitious (and Japan-only) entries in the Rastan series—a beat-’em-up that swapped the earlier games’ platforming for Golden Axe-style combat while keeping the series’ barbarian fantasy look.

Many have never seen chuck eyes for sale and the reason is that your meat cutters/butchers don't feel like carving them out of the chuck roasts. But I can show you how to spot them! Then you can carve them out yourself. The rest can be cooked in a crockpot and/or you can even cut up the Denver for steaks. The Denver is one of the most unknown and well marbled cuts of meat on the cow. The honeycomb marbling makes its juiciness unmatched. Cook it like you would any other steak.

** MEGA Parodius Scaling Effects Part 1 ** One of the big challenges with the Parodius Megadrive port is Stage 8's boss - The puffer-fish *Pooyan* with his full screen scaling effect. The goal is to be very close to the arcade (with extras on top ) so I thought lets tackle it head on to see how close we can get. I was also keen to jump into another scaling code rabit hole haha. Pyron pulled out all the stops and got me the source frames and reworked the BG tiles for this test - a big thankyou to him , Vector Orbitex is busy working on Stage 2 tracks so the team is working hard all round on this port. The MD has no sprite / background GFX scaling hardware , however the VDPs Vertical scroll can be updated per scanline to help vertical scaling on backgrounds, but there is a cpu cost to manage all the interupts so thats not free either. With the Horizontal scaling there is no help at all , apart from a semi-friendly packed pixel format for the cpu to work with, its not quite chunky format but better than planar format still for scaling. So its falls back to the 68k CPU to do all of the horizontal expansion which is the largest cpu cost. Basically drawing strips of either 1x, 2x, 3x or 4x wide columns at speed. So we are one week into this Boss's routine and you can see from the below video the horizontal scaling is implented ( vertical will be in the next update ) . We are scaling from 1x to 4x in the video below in 74 steps for testing . The column distributions are always a bit painfull to do - thankfully they are all worked out now. This is the third scaler I have built and the goal was with this one to make it really flexible for use in other projects also, sometimes when you optimise something to the last degree all the flexibility gets taken out of it. Currenty scaling at 12-25 FPS update here, I had some rules against some optimisations which I would use and some I wouldn't , thankfully we are a bit ahead of the Arcades animation frame rate here still and I may yet find optimisations that fit within the scope. We have vertical scaling and sprite spikes to add yet so Im hoping i can find a few more optimisations to offset things when they are implemented also. In a scale frame update we are processing close to 42000 pixels in ram before using DMA to send to VRAM . Using a 41x16 (656 tile scale buffer) - single buffered for now due to its size in VRAM. So thats nearly 21k in tiles ! I had to re-organise ram a bit to support a buffer of that size for the stage. The scaling function is written in 68k assembly , with a little C code handling the Vertical interupt code ( so the game logic can actually run & DMA updates etc ) . The DMA routines are in assembly also and customised for large chunk size ( big blocks of tiles ) which suits the scaler. I had some race conditions to sort out where the cpu was faster than DMA (sending tiles from RAM to VRAM ) and in some cases where it wasn't so it had to be balanced. We may be able to add more detail into the top and bottom of the background yet but its low priority for now until all the other bits are in !! #SGDK #SegaMegadrive #Genesis #Parodius

The new Ion Core streak in Zombies is pretty cool. It pulses a total of 4 times. It does about 5% of the Round Zombie Health for about 10 Seconds per pulse. It's capable of clearing multiple entire hordes if you don't damage them at all. But possible to get even more if you're actively shooting the zombies too. (I got ~80 kills by just using it and not damaging zombies myself, which is spot-on two hordes worth of zombies) The range is insane. Easily able to reach both ends of the street here in Paradox Junction. I think this could be great for certain Easter Egg steps like the Farm Trial in Ashes, either defense waves in Astra, or the defense phases in the boss fight of Paradox. Really cool addition to the sandbox. Something more than just "point and shoot". Could be a bit stronger, maybe last longer, and/or do a bit more damage. But overall, this is really interesting!

Street Fighter II was a massive hit in arcades, but even before that, Final Fight was already incredibly popular. At the time, rumors were circulating that the game would be ported to PC, so when it was suddenly announced for the Super Famicom, it came as a huge shock. Although Guy was missing and two-player co-op wasn’t supported, the mere fact that we could play Final Fight at home felt like a blessing in itself. Looking back now, the Super Famicom version was released in December 1990, when the system’s maximum cartridge size was 8 megabits (1 megabyte). Considering that the arcade version had more than twice that amount of data, it seems clear that these limitations led to those difficult compromises. Beat ’em up games were already popular in arcades before Final Fight, but after its release, the genre truly boomed, eventually leading to Capcom’s finest belt-scrolling action titles—culminating in Dungeons & Dragons, the pinnacle of their beat ’em up legacy.

I’m feeling a bit nostalgic today. I was a 70s girl and an 80s teen. My daily life consisted of softball, pitching lessons, and squabbling with my sisters once in a while. I had complete freedom and didn’t even know it. I didn’t have to ask to go out to play or hang out with my friends. I could take the bus to the mall and come home by 6 and my parents had no idea if I was okay or not. The neighbors all looked out for each other and you better not mouth off to them or your parents will hear about it. No cell phones, computers, or Uber. We were thinner because we walked or rode our bikes everywhere and fast food actually had food in it. I miss it. 😢

ELON: THE PEOPLE SHOULD DECIDE WHAT'S IMPORTANT, NOT A HANDFUL OF EDITORS "I don't think there should be a gatekeeping function by a small number of individuals. For newspapers in America, there are about five editors that decide what gets put on the front page, or what to focus on, or what not to focus on. And most of the other papers just copy them, essentially. But is that really what we want? Do we want a handful of people deciding what they think is important? Or should it be the people who decide what's important? And I think it should be sort of an organic thing, where the people decide what's important and what to focus on, not just a handful of editors. They don't like the fact that this power has been taken away from them. But I think it should be." Source: European Jewish Association, January 2024

This is the reality of our country. We preach family values and go on to call our daughters bhosdiwali and madarchod. Notice how she doesn’t even flinch when she hears those words. She hears them everyday. That’s why. It doesn’t matter if she knows or doesn’t know the meaning. The point is she is already numb to hearing them. It is already normalized for her to be called these words. All the people who said I was wrong for saying that little girls are called randi by their parents were simply privileged and tone deaf for blaming me. This is the reality of our country. The more we ignore it, the more it continues. If you want it to stop, TALK about it. I put multiple screenshots of girls being called randi in my video. But people just dismissed me and made me the villain. Stop being in denial. If you love India, you have to fix the problems that exist in it.

I got my Amiga in summer 1986, so it's celebrating its 40th birthday these days. As with so many things in life you often appreciate them more when looking back. The Amiga was a truly remarkable computer, and for several years in the 80s it dominated the market (both in terms of hardware and software sales). Obviously, it did not stand a chance against the shift toward PCs and consoles in the 90s. However, it didn't just fade away over night but still gave us incredible games in its later years. I have long thought about what I personally consider to be the best action platfomer for the Amiga. I know some people will nominate Prince of Persia, but I think if you are more literal with the word action platformer, the vote should go to Turrican 2: The Final Fight. It is now entering its 35th year, being released in 1991, and still looks and sounds absolutely awesome. Super detailed and vibrant graphics, smooth scrolling, great weapon systems, and last but definitely not least, a banger soundtrack by legendary composer Chris Huelsbeck. The game showed what was still possible with the Amiga and easily rivaled even the high end console games of the time. If you ask me, Turrican 2 is the undisputed #1 action platformer for the Amiga. Agree or disagree?

First Impression About Neverness To Everness CBT This will be a long or short one and I mostly have plenty of good to say about the game so far and some bad. First I want to get out the way: Graphics In short, we already know its good! But this is definitely playing some part on performance on my end and it wasn't entirely bad experience at all just some fps drops here and there but its playable and 90% of time it was smooth so the performance issues is a easy fix (apart from some I've seen have already started having crash issues so it'll be different for all of us depending on your specs) I'm well in range of the specs so if I'm having some small issues that mean whoever has worse specs will have it worse. Performance/Optimizing the game etc is not something that should be ignored anyway and most of the time developers of recent time feel like they don't care about improving it, I hope NTE by release or during the test will fix the issues by then (crash problems etc + its day one of the test anyway) Second: Combat Just like wuthering waves, the games combat is fun (I still think it can benefit more on having more effects/impact frames etc to really nail the combat experience...) I know people have compared some characters to WuWa characters as "plagirism" but most part alot of characters in the game have their own charm and uniqueness to the combat The boss enemies also may have some unpredictable patterns and can put alot of pressure or aggression on you but isn't exactly too hard thankfully! But its still great because I like how fast pace and intense the fightings are when your in the boss fights Common enemies don't have much going on for them. Third: Story Unlike Genshin and Wuthering Waves the story for NTE or Neverness to Everness is actually more "Human" one of my viewers described it as and I actually agree, I'm not saying WuWa nor Genshin storytelling is bad but the way NTE tells its story is more morden and you can easily be engaged with it and understand everything clearly! The story is also pretty goofy and just like zenless they have great animations and (VERY) expressive with their animations which makes for great overall experience and I prefer this storytelling the most out of other games. (this is a personal preference) The gacha system is some sort of board game but the game gacha is F2P friendly?(For now for what I've seen) and there's no 50/50.. I was also almost able to max out alot of characters that aren't S rank in almost a day too Thats all so far, I'm still experiencing more as I go but this sums up my 5 hours so far into the game on stream and would love to see y'all in the next stream tomorrow. After I reach 50 hours or more I will do a video in conclusion about the game and what more I would love to see. TDLR: The game is good/great don't worry, just some small stuff that can make it better or some stuff that need fixing (despite the combat plagirism drama that was going on)

Who remembers this classic shooter from 35 years ago? SWIV (or "Silkworm IV" as called by some) from 1991. Graphics and sound effects were excellent for its time. But what I liked the most was that you could toggle through the power ups by shooting at them when they dropped. It added some extra fun and complexity, it allowed you to really improve (or mess up!) your weapons path. The game was considered a spiritual successor to Tecmo's arcade game Silkworm from 1989. The game's heritage is evident from the game design whereby one player pilots a helicopter, and the other an armoured Jeep. SWIV is not an official sequel, as noted by ex-Sales Curve producer Dan Marchant: "SWIV wasn't really a sequel to Silkworm, but it was certainly inspired by it and several other shoot-'em-ups that we had played and loved." If you listen closely to the sound effects, you will definitely hear a resemblance to "Silkworm." Sometimes I would just let the intro run endlessly - the music was simply too good!

CNBC’s Andrew Ross Sorkin: “We just said the [Washington Post] laid off about 30% of its staff and there’s a lot of people out there who said, Jeff’s super wealthy, he’s talked about this being a public trust, it’s something that he bought early on, how much do you care about that piece of it? Why lay people up? Why fire people? Why are you subsidizing the business…” Jeff Bezos: “Because The Post needs to be a profitable enterprise that stands on its own two feet.” “What I told them, when we were planning those layoffs, I didn’t pick who was going to be laid off or which departments. I said, follow the data. Follow the data. And I said, there’s one exception to this. Don’t follow the data on investigative reporting. The heart of The Post is investigative reporting, and guess what? Our newsroom today, even after the layoffs, is still larger than when we did Watergate and the Pentagon Papers. And we just won the Pulitzer Prize for public service, the most prestigious Pulitzer for our investigation in the DOGE.” “The Post is going to continue to be an important institution. In fact, it’s going to be a more important institution because of this financial discipline. It needs to be relevant to readers. It needs stand on its own two feet. I don’t want it to be a charity. It doesn’t need to be and it shouldn’t be.” Andrew Ross Sorkin: “Do you want to own it?” Jeff Bezos: “Yes, my vision is still to make sure The Post is a, when I bought The Post, it was very unprofitable when I brought it. The newsroom was even smaller than it is today. We turned it around in two years, it was profitable for six years. I put all that money back in The Post and grew the newsroom, so we’ve shrunk it back some now. But we haven’t shrunk it back to what it was when I bought it.”

lando on the boys trip to langkawi: "someone told me about it. originally i think it was me and carlos and maybe some of the others were going then it ended up just being more and more. but i stayed away, they went to do karting and have a bit of fun and i did my own thing. i kept to myself a little bit. honestly, it's two sides one is just good fun because they're all a good group of people and i enjoy to spend time with them and it's nice to be with people outside of racing and outside of work. but at the same time they're the last people i want to see when i have some days off 😁 so, it was a mix we had some nice dinners and play chess, we did different sports and stuff, we played padel and a bit of golf together. but at the same time, it was nice for me to do my own thing and do a bit of training and be alone for some days."
