How it started and how it is going ! Declared in 1940 as India’s first wildlife sanctuary, Mudumalai Tiger Reserve is a thriving Tiger Reserve. With a total area of 688.59 sq. km and forming part of the Nilgiris Biosphere Reserve, it now supports an estimated 165 tigers (2024-25), up from 129 in 2023-24. A Sustainable Cow-Based Economy for Farmer Prosperity Attended the closing ceremony of 'Rajyamata Gomata Samvad Yatra 2026' in Nagpur today. The Government has taken several policy decisions to strengthen goshalas under the Maharashtra Goseva Aayog initiative, conserve indigenous cattle and promote a self-sustaining cattle welfare ecosystem. For our ancestors, gold and silver were not the true symbols of prosperity; rather, a prosperous and self-reliant agricultural civilisation was their true glory, and at the center of this entire system was our beloved Gomata. In our culture, Gomata has always been respected as a mother. Just as a mother continues to nurture and guide her family throughout life, the cow continues to serve society in countless ways. Conserving Gomata is essential for preserving our agricultural heritage, promoting natural farming and ensuring safe, chemical-free food for future generations. Building a resilient cow-based economy will help empower farmers and increase crop production. In a significant species revival effort,Tamil Nadu records a steady rise in Vulture numbers. From the brink of extinction, Vultures species are soaring high once again thanks to conservation efforts. Synchronized vulture survey of 2025 in Tamil Nadu shows increasing trend in vulture populations, particularly for White-rumped Vultures and Long-billed Vultures classified by IUCN as critically endangered. We also observed a new record of sorts with the first-ever nesting of a Red-headed Vulture in the Mudumalai Tiger Reserve. The survey covered 106 vantage points in key protected areas, including Mudumalai Tiger Reserve, Sathyamangalam Tiger Reserve, and Nellai Wildlife Sanctuary. Here are the important findings; 1. Total Vulture Count: 157 vultures recorded in Tamil Nadu (100 in 2022-23 and 152 in 2023-24 ) 2. The vulture population in the landscape shows an increase from 320 to 390 ( TN, Kerala,Karnataka) 2. Most Abundant Species: White-rumped Vulture (110) followed by Long-billed Vulture (31) Red-headed Vulture (11) Egyptian Vulture (05) 3. Nesting Trends: highest number of nests was recorded in Mudumalai Tiger Reserve, indicating successful breeding. The study emphasizes continued conservation efforts, including monitoring nesting sites, assessing human-vulture interactions, and deploying camera traps for better population estimation. The game changer was effective implementation of ban on Diclofenac a Veterinary drug causing large scale death of vultures and setting up the vulture conservation committee. TN has taken the lead in effective enforcement of violations. 104 cases were initiated leading to conviction. The recent ban on Nimusulide is also being pursued wherein action in 10 cases has been initiated leading to suspension of 5 licenses of Pharmacy shops for violations. Together with WWF (World Wildlife Fund), we create a unique sand sculpture every year to raise global tiger awareness on Global Tiger Day. This year too we have done it. WWF India is creating awareness about the securing the home and vicinity of tiger. Just like we keep our home secure, it is the responsibility of all of us to keep tigers safe...We have depicted tiger and its cubs, showing how happy they are in their abode."

#KuduAwards2023-2024 Thank you to SANParks for presenting me with the #KuduAward in the category: Media Contribution to Conservation and Eco-Tourism. It is an incredible honor to be recognized yet again. In 2022, we received the award for the in-depth #CrimeWatch show around rhino and elephant poaching. I a truly humbled to receive this distinction again - for, according to SANParks, “ the outstanding effort dedicated to covering stories about conservation and safety and security in Table Mountain National Park and Kruger National Park.” This award is not only a reflection of my efforts but also the support and collaboration of many who share a commitment to conservation and the preservation of our natural heritage. I dedicate this award to all those working tirelessly to protect and nurture our environment for future generations and to my team at #CrimeWatch on @etv and eNCA I am deeply appreciative of this accolade. It motivates me to continue contributing towards the conservation and preservation of our natural heritage. Congratulations also to colleague Theodor from eNCA on his award.

Empowering Rural Maharashtra: Honouring Excellence at Gramvikas Puraskar-2026 Glad to attend the ‘Gramvikas Puraskar-2026’, organised by the RD Foundation on the occasion of the 80th birthday of former Minister Ranjeetbabu Deshmukh. Remembered his contribution in bringing coordination and discipline while enforcing various schemes as Rural Development Minister. Awarded various villages and organisations for their exceptional contributions to education, sanitation, healthcare and more. Public participation is important for rural development. The success of programs like Jalyukt Shivar, which significantly boosted agricultural productivity, is a testament to the power of collective action. The villages awarded today serve as inspiring benchmarks for what can be achieved through community involvement. Furthermore, the government of Maharashtra is integrating AI into agri-services, scaling water conservation efforts and utilising technology for waste management and infrastructure to transform every village.
