Major Milestone for Mumbai: MMRDA Erects First Span of Elevated Eastern Freeway Over Live Traffic A major engineering milestone was achieved on Monday on Mumbai’s 13.9-km, six-lane Elevated Eastern Freeway Extension (EFE), with the erection of precast segments commencing over the busy Eastern Express Highway while traffic continued to... show more

For daily travellers, this could be a real game-changer. 🚗🛣️ A signal-free connection between Thane and South Mumbai, cutting travel time to around 20–25 minutes, means smoother journeys, fewer stops and less time stuck in traffic. Mumbai’s connectivity is moving forward. 🙌

Meanwhile in China

Stop celebrating small achievements which bring no difference to public… time between work start and commissioning of project should be brought down to bring down inconvenience to travellers

The fact that different construction systems are progressing simultaneously should help keep this kind of large corridor moving on multiple fronts.

Hope there is a ramp at Bhandup pumping station..

The first span is impressive, but the bigger story is what it represents: MMRDA is building another layer of connectivity over an already heavily used transport corridor, while keeping the existing movement going below.

This is actually good to see. Hope the work continues at the same pace and we get some relief on EEH.

Great!!

A six-lane elevated corridor from Chheda Nagar to Anand Nagar changes the conversation around this entire side of Mumbai. The eventual connections will be crucial.

This is infrastructure you can actually watch being assembled piece by piece. First segment is a small milestone physically, but a big one for the project.

Funny how MMRDA takes credit for achievements, but blames contractors whenwver there is an accident.

115 metres of launching gantry and a 90+ tonne segment for the first lift. The scale of the operation is quite something.

This is 14 lane mega expressway and your building just 2 lane bridge - quite obvious by looking at size of Slab 🙄🤦🏻

3732 spans to be launched with two gantries means 1866 per gantry. If each can launch 2 per day, we get 933 days to launch all. Add 180 more days to do side walls, electricals, topping & pain. Plus 180 days for ramps. Total 3.5 years more. My guess: Inauguration in Mar 2030.

Good milestone. Now comes the exciting part: watching the individual segments turn into continuous spans and eventually into a complete corridor.

For anyone who regularly travels through Mulund, Bhandup, Vikhroli or Kanjurmarg, this is more than another infrastructure update. This is a game changer.

Bravo Well done to the team 💐👏

Please look into making the entire strech Signal free ,having provision for u turns and adequate parking lot spaces .

Connectivity to Mulund, Airoli, JVLR, Vikhroli and the wider network is what will ultimately determine the corridor's impact. The alignment connects some very important nodes.

Good to see the project updates include actual engineering numbers. 40m spans, 16 segments, 115m gantry etc. Makes it possible to understand what is actually being built.

This is one of those milestones that looks simple in a photograph but clearly isn't simple to execute.

The move from monopiles and piers to deck erection is an important phase change. Now the pace of construction should become much more visible.

A road solves one movement problem. A connected road network can solve several. That's why the broader MMRDA approach of looking at mobility as an integrated network is worth watching.

The first deck segment adds another visible layer to the progress of the project. Will be looking for regular updates.

This is what infrastructure progress looks like in stages. Monopiles, piers, pier caps, precast segments and now the first span. Good to see MMRDA sharing the actual engineering milestones.

Building above a live artery without shutting it is the Mumbai test. Today they passed the first practical paper. Keep the updates this specific.

Managing a 115-metre launching gantry above a live highway while keeping ground-level interference minimal is a remarkable engineering achievement. Kudos to @MMRDAOfficial

EEH is not just a road. It is the daily commute for thousands of people around Mulund, Bhandup, Vikhroli and Kanjurmarg. An elevated six-lane alternative above it could make a real difference once operational.

The first span is only one piece, but it is an important one. Once the remaining segments start moving at scale, the transformation of the corridor will become much more visible.

The connection from Chheda Nagar towards Anand Nagar is what makes this particularly interesting. It extends the Eastern Freeway logic much further north instead of leaving the elevated system isolated.

A 115-metre launching gantry putting heavy precast segments over a live highway with minimal ground-level interference is serious execution. Well done @MMRDAOfficial

A 115-metre launching gantry handling heavy precast segments over a live highway with minimal ground-level disruption reflects impressive engineering and execution. Well done @MMRDAOfficial

The use of a 115-metre launching gantry for placing heavy precast segments over an active highway shows strong planning, coordination and execution. Well done @MMRDAOfficial

There is a lot happening across the MMR right now. The Elevated Eastern Freeway, Metro expansion, new connectors and the wider road network are all part of a much larger infrastructure build-out. Good to see the focus on regional connectivity.

The live-traffic aspect is what stands out. Building above EEH without stopping the movement below is a serious execution challenge. Well done @MMRDAOfficial
