A guy named Philip turned every old iPhone and iPad into a working second monitor for free. It is called OpenDisplay. It gives your Mac a real extended display using an Apple device you already own. You can use it for: > Messages > Spotify > Documentation > Video previews > Terminal windows > Reference material Download the sender on your Mac and the receiver on your iPhone or iPad. Tobias Scharnowski compromised a Tesla Universal Wall Connector through the charging cable itself. the chain: → compromise the Tesla Wall Connector through the charging cable itself (SWCAN protocol on the Control Pilot line, the wire that's supposed to just talk power levels) → the charger then hacks the car's infotainment system over wifi. on its own → the car parks near chargers from other brands → the infotainment system hacks an Autel MaxiCharger and a ChargePoint Home Flex over bluetooth. also on its own one plug-in. four vendors. zero clicks after the first move. but the exploit isn't the interesting part. the wall connector firmware is bare metal ARM, binary only, no source, no symbols. testing it live on the device gets you one attempt every few seconds and a single bit of feedback: did it crash. they built an emulator to run the firmware off the actual hardware. same testing, 1000x faster. that's the difference between "this chip is unfuzzable" and finding a critical bug in hours. the bug: a signed integer read from the firmware header turns into a memory write past where it should stop, during the exact step meant to verify the firmware is legit. it had been sitting there through however many people read that code. slides in the reply. this might be my favorite Black Hat talk this year.

I do LAN means "local area network" and it was essentially the internet but locally only in your home or company in the late 90s and early 2000s So you could connect to other computers to play games or share files, kinda like Airdrop but via a cable and 30 years ago, people would even meet up at some person's house and bring their entire computer (back then a big PC tower, CRT monitor, keyboard and mouse) and everyone would connect to each other Which is were you'd get all the WaReZ games, MP3 music, etc. cause nobody had internet yet, or if you did it was super slow, so LAN was much faster to transfer files I know Windows 3.11 did have support for LAN networking via NetBEUI and it "should" work, but of course on I don't have a network cable that goes to an Ethernet network hub to other computers But...we could just act like we do? I asked AI to build a virtual Ethernet hub (a hub routes traffic) that acts like a local LAN, but instead of connecting physical computers in a home, it connects other browser sessions on the internet that have running Windows 3.11 open at any time, and with DHCP it can assign an IP to every browser session dynamically, so they literally all become part of a local LAN on the internet! It runs on a virtual NE2000 network card that sends its network data not to a network cable but via Websockets to wss://pieter.com And it works, well kinda, I just started and its' not perfect, but I'm able to PING in MS-DOS from one tab to the other! Next is setting it up inside Windows 3.11!

The number one thing you need in life is gratitude. Get up in the morning and write down a few things you’re excited by. I’m a short guy so when I look at the glass it always looks half full, I’m too short to see it any other way. Getting fired from the White House, humiliated on every late night show, destroyed by the cable news guys, no problem. You take all of that, and you write down what you’re grateful for anyway. It sounds simple, but it works.

Bash is all you need! Which is why I'm introducing my holiday project: just-bash just-bash is a pretty complete implementation of bash in TypeScript designed to be used as a bash tool by AI agents. Because it turns out agents love exploring data via shell scripts, even beyond coding. It comes with grep, sed, awk and the 99th percentile features that an agent like Claude Code or Cursor would use. In fact, Claude Code can use it for secure bash execution. In the package - A bash-tool for AI SDK - A binary for use by yourself or your coding agents - An overlay filesystem to feed files to your agent securely - A Vercel Sandbox compatible API, so you can quickly upgrade to a real VM if you need to run binaries - An example AI agent that explores the just-bash code base using just-bash - I imported the Oils shell bash compatibility suite and just-bash passes a very good chunk What is interesting about this codebase: It was essentially entirely written by Opus 4.5. Coding agents love bash and they are good at reproducing it. They are also great at text-book recursive descent parsers and AST tweet-walk interpreters. That said, it is, like, a lot of code and I didn't read it all 😅. This is very much a hack, but it also seems to be _really_ useful. I haven't really found anything agents want to use that it doesn't support and it's fast and secure (caveats apply). It doesn't have write access to your computer and the filesystem is given a root that the agent cannot escape from. Every scientific dataset, every piece of research sitting in a university, every sensor reading off every John Deere tractor in a field. All of it feeds the machine, and almost none of it is visible to us. What comes out is an agentic economy running at machine speed. You plug your data into a vault, and agents monetise it on your behalf, trading with other agents in real time, in a marketplace we never see. The company sitting on proprietary data becomes part of it without even knowing. This is what the Economic Singularity actually looks like from the inside. Cable Zercher Slant Board Squat This is a very cool exercise I have started doing with the following beneficial mechanics: - Slant Board (Heels Elevated): The incline shifts your center of gravity forward, allowing for greater knee flexion, a deeper squat for those with limited mobility and a more upright torso. This puts an extreme emphasis on the quadriceps, particularly the vastus medialis (VMO) or teardrop muscle. - Zercher Position: Holding the load in the crooks of your elbows forces your upper back and core to work harder to prevent the weight from pulling your torso forward. This is a very natural force pattern that has great carryover to real life applications. - Safety/Stability: The cable acts as a guide, making it easier to maintain your balance on the slant board while focusing entirely on the muscle contraction, good for those who want to push the legs with a bit more “safety” than a free weight squat. Unlike a barbell where the tension changes through the range of motion (getting "easier" at the top), the cable provides constant mechanical tension throughout the entire squat. It is an exceptional movement for building teardrop quad definition and improving knee stability, as well as core bracing. I like to do it 6 or so sets, high volume repetitions - pyramiding up from low weight to high with minimal rest times - focusing on achieving the most brutal lactic acid build up that I can in the legs, done at the start of a workout. Even though the weight isn’t hugely high on the cable machine, it still packs a massive punch. Try it out!
