Sheikh Abdirashid Maalim of Masjid Halima in Elwak gives his resignation today in the clip below due to pressure from Mandera County Governor over the Imam's khutbah last week regarding the water crisis in the county. The mosque was built by the Governor's family. The Imam gave the reasons for his resignation, including a requirement that he presents the khutbah for approval/ vetting prior to his reading it, and a requirement that the khutbah shall not be recorded on audio/video. He also said the truth he shared in his Khutbah has been construed as propaganda. This is big shame, scandalous & tyranny. With deep sorrow the Muslim community including students from across the globe received news of the passing of Sheikh Bashir bin Ahmed Siddiq earlier this week, the venerable teacher of the Holy Qur’an at Masjid An Nabawi in Madinah. Sheikh Bashir devoted more than six decades of his life to teaching Qur’an recitation within the precincts of the Prophet’s Mosque. He was highly respected for his mastery of tajwīd (rules of Qur’anic recitation), his patience, and his dedication to nurturing students from around the world. Under his guidance, many students went on to become prominent Qur’anic reciters and scholars. Among his students were former and current imams and reciters at the Two Holy Mosques, such as Sheikh Muhammad Ayub, Sheikh Ali Jaber, Sheikh Abdul Muhsin Al-Qasim, Sheikh Salah Al-Budair, and Sheikh Muhammad Al-Mukhtar Al-Shanqiti. Sheikh Bashir passed away on October 1, 2025. His funeral prayers were held at Masjid An Nabawi, the very mosque where he taught for decades and was led by Sheikh Salah Al Budair who he personally requested to lead his Funeral Prayers. He was then laid to rest in Jannat al-Baqīʿ, the sacred cemetery of Madinah, where many of the Prophet’s companions and pious scholars lie. Sheikh Bashir’s legacy is one of quiet excellence and steadfast devotion. His life was a living lesson in how to dedicate oneself to the service of the Qur’an. His impact will continue through his students, whose voices echo in mosques around the world. Many will remember him not only for his knowledge, but for his humility, sincerity, and unwavering commitment to transmitting the beauty of the Book of Allah.

"You are a snake" WATCH the threatening way Rabbi Arnie Saunders was treated when he was invited to the Bilal Mosque in Prestwich, Manchester in his role as the Conservative candidate for Bury South by the mosque elders. That he was allowed to be abused, intimidated and have his personal space invaded is disgraceful and shocking. He must have feared for his safety. Today is a truly blessed day as we joined our own Sheikh Abdulkadir Salman Solagberu when he delivered his inaugural Jumu’ah sermon (Khutbah) and led the prayers as an Imam of the National Mosque, Abuja. Following the prayer, I was honoured to host Sheikh and some Kwarans for lunch at my residence. May Allah (SWT) bless Sheikh Solagberu, the Malami Ubandoma of Ilorin Emirate in his new role, grant him success in leading the Ummah, and accept his service. Ameen.

To Allah we belong, and to Him we shall return. The great Egyptian muhaddith, Sheikh Abu Ishaq al-Huwayni, passed away today. This is a great loss for the Muslim world and Ahl al-Hadith. I am at a loss for words, but I will mention one personal memory of mine involving the sheikh, which I was previously asked to keep private. One of the sheikh’s doctors and associates was a family friend, so I had the chance to meet the sheikh and sit beside him on a few occasions. One day, after a public lecture the sheikh gave in Doha, I went to greet the sheikh. His son whispered to the doctor, “The sheikh is about to complete his khatma in the qira’a of Abu Ja’far with Sheikh al-Maasarawi on such-and-such day, and you are invited to the party.” I was invited to the event, but I was busy at the time, which I now regret. Here is an accomplished old sheikh in his sixties with worldwide fame, yet he was still sitting with other scholars and learning the Quran from them. The clip where the sheikh expresses his regret for not devoting his life to the Quran went viral several years ago, and this was but one private endeavor of his to address these feelings of regret. Today, he is relieved from all his troubles, and he departs to His merciful Lord. Allah have mercy on him and all of his righteous predecessors.

Sherzod Juraev, who has been teaching Arabic in Bukhara since 2021, was found guilty by the Peshku District Court under Articles 94-241 and 34 of the Code of Administrative Responsibility (unauthorised religious education) and sentenced to 7 days of administrative detention. In addition, he was fined 1,875,000 Uzbek soums (£107). Sherzod Juraev had been teaching Arabic to students based on documents permitted by the laws of the Republic of Uzbekistan and that he had not opened any kind of “Quran course.” For reference, Sherzod Juraev worked as a deputy Imam at one of the mosques in the Bukhara region between 2021 and 2023. In 2023, a video circulated on social media showing him visiting the Bukhara Medical Institute to defend the rights of his niece, who was reportedly facing abuse and harassment due to her Hijab.
