Many think the surveillance state is inevitable and that it's impossible to recover true privacy. But that’s exactly what Big Tech wants you to believe, argues Naomi Brockwell priv/acc. "I see it everywhere…people ask me: 'why should I bother? They already have all my information anyway.' And for me,... it's akin to saying, 'Well, why should I bother continuing to fight for freedom? I've already lost most of it anyway.'" "We're at a state where we are just skyrocketing towards a very dystopian future." But at the same time there are actually many tools at our disposal that can stop our information from being collected, she says. "All of the privacy tools are out there. But those good intentions, she warns, often blind officials to what’s being lost in the process. “This surveillance apparatus centralizes control and makes individuals more vulnerable,” she said. “It eliminates checks and balances. And once the power imbalance grows too large, citizens lose the ability to hold elected officials accountable.” The consequences aren’t abstract. I’m wondering if you think there should be more privacy for players and their teams as they’re back there? Or how you see the balance of that versus them trying to have entertainment and content coming out.” Iga: “The question is, are we tennis players? Or are we animals in the zoo? Where they are observed even when they’re pooping. Ok, that was exaggerating obviously, but it would be nice to have some privacy. It would be nice also to have your own process and not always be observed. For example, in other sports, you have some technical things you wanna do. It would be nice to have some space you can do that without the whole world watching. On Wimbledon there are courts where people with accreditation can get there but it’s without the fans. There are some tournaments where it’s impossible and you’re constantly observed. I don’t think it should be like that because we are tennis players. Trust In US Government At An All Time Low. The People In Florida Believe They’re Being Setup With Hurricane Idalia. It’s Gone Viral, Listen To This ‌ FLORIDA RESIDENT: “Did anybody else notice yesterday on the news when they were talking about this hurricane Idalia that's going to hit right at Tampa? Did anybody watch them say that the government told every citizen of Tampa, Florida, to go to the gas station and fill up their car with at least half way yesterday? But then later it comes out that 29 gas stations, 29 of the most prominent gas stations where people went and filled up with gas had contaminated gas that was contaminated with diesel fuel. ‌ Conspiracy, I think not. ‌ At this rate, the rate we're going, a conspiracy theory is just six months premature of coming true. They're all coming true. It's scary to think that our government, I've been through several hurricanes living in Georgia. People come up here to where I live and they stay in hotels and we wind up being packed anytime there's a hurricane and then people go back down but I have never ever heard of this happening and people are there are still people out there that think that Maui was not caused by the government if you do okay whatever I can't convince you any more than what everybody else has tried to convince people but please explain to me how this is just something that just happened it just happened. ‌ Not that our government wanted everybody to be stranded on the freaking highway when this thing hits so they can blow out some more people. They are trying to dispose of us. Because they want to create smart cities and smart worlds, and we are disposable to them. ‌ But come September 1st, I hope and I pray that all of us that are tired of being sick and tired shows them the power in numbers, in our numbers, in standing united behind one common goal. And I can tell you, there are people coming together, white, brown, Hispanic, it doesn't matter what color you are, it doesn't matter your race, it doesn't matter where you come from. We are all tired of being sick and tired. ‌ So we're going to do something about it. September 1st, they're asking everyone to go on strike. They are also asking that you don't participate. You don't buy anything Friday. Nothing. Don't spend your money on anything Friday. ‌ Hopefully they'll see the power in our numbers and how united and how effective we can be when we all stand united. ‌ If nothing changes, nothing changes. Are Flock Cameras Actually Good? Andrew Bustamante: "I understand why people don't like flock cameras, but I am a fan of this type of public surveillance. Because we don't have a right to privacy. We think we do, but it's not actually listed out anywhere. The term right to privacy doesn't exist, but we do have the public expectation of security from our police and from our law enforcement agencies." "So this creates a deterrent to keep right people doing the right thing, and wrong people getting caught. But it also creates a trail of evidence... that can be brought to the table to prosecute people who are charged with breaking the law. If you are a law abiding citizen, you have nothing to fear from these things. It's only if you are speeding, crossing at the red light, robbing somebody, if you're doing something that you don't want to get caught... that's when you don't like it." Sarah Adams: "A lot of people think when there's something like this, someone is sitting and watching it all day, and you really only go into this data when you're looking for a piece of info... I know cops are using it to track their exes, and I said, fire them. So I like it because the more data you have to solve a crime, better."
