Marc Andreessen says open source AI might follow the path of Linux, which reshaped the OS landscape in the 90s. It's plausible that models like DeepSeek or Llama could become the standard. “If the world had AI for free, that would be a pretty magical result.”

AI and its benefits should absolutely be free for the world. Its power should be to advance humanity, not centralize power and increase the already quickly expanding divide of different classes

Why is he wearing a tie? And he is rightly and appropriately speaking on the Old Order. Where technology was imposed upon the people. Yet AI enables each person to be a free actor and create. This time is different. The humans will create the models which will be imposed on the "companies" (purchased thereby). It is what we are seeing @ Google for instance responding to the market rather than the market responding to it. One persons will move big companies.

Free models are amazing but ownable models are inevitable. Open-source AI deserves both!
