I have seen some desperate NPP propagandists share a video of the Upper West Regional Hospital, with the claim that it was started by Former President Kufour and completed by President Akufo-Addo. Although the history of the Upper West Regional Hospital is well-known and a matter of public record, it is important to set the records straight so that unsuspecting Ghanaians are not hoodwinked by this dubious propaganda. 1. The 160-bed Upper West Regional Hospital project was one of the nine (9) hospitals which were awarded to Euroget De Invest in the year 2010 by the Government of Ghana. 2. The project was conceptualized and initiated by the Kufour government as part of what is called “The Hospitals Project”. Euroget De Invest was engaged by the Government of Ghana to design and build 8 hospitals for the Ministry of Health and 1 hospital for the Ministry of Defense. 3. A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed by the Government of Ghana and Euroget De Invest for the nine (9) hospital projects in April 2008. 4. Cabinet gave approval for the Euroget hospital projects on 29th October 2008. 5. On 12th November, 2008, the Parliament of Ghana approved the loan for the Euroget hospital projects, an amount of $339 million dollars which was to be sourced from Egypt. The Kufour government was then voted out of office. See 6. The contracts for the projects were signed between the Mills government and Euroget in 2010. 7. On 31st July, 2010, then Vice President of the Republic of Ghana, H.E John Dramani Mahama cut the sod for the Upper West Regional Hospital. 8. However, construction of the project could not commence due to the inability of the company, Euroget De Invest to secure funding from Egypt. This undue delay was mainly occasioned by the Arab spring upheaval in Egypt. Thus, the Upper West regional hospital could not start on schedule due to lack of funds. See 9. Through the hard work of the Mills/Mahama government, approval was given to Euroget De Invest and funding was secured from a Barclays PLC- ABSA SA consortium to finance the project in August 2012. See 10. In November 2012, just before the elections, then running mate to Akufo-Addo, Alhaji Bawumia visited the project site with the media and mocked John Mahama and the NDC for deceiving the people of Upper West region. See 11. Actual construction began in 2014 under the Mahama/NDC government with funding from the Barclays-ABSA bank consortium. By the time John Mahama was leaving office, the project was about 95%. These facts are verifiable and indisputable. 13. It is true that the project has its roots in the Kufour government. It was in 2008, that the MoU and original loan agreement was signed and approved. However, the funding arrangement envisaged under the Kufour government didn’t materialize. The contracts were signed and the sod cut for the project by the Mills/Mahama government. More importantly, Funding was secured in August 2012 under the Mills/Mahama government. Construction began in 2014 under the Mahama government and was over 95% complete in 2016 before John Mahama left office. 14. The Upper West Regional hospital project should have been fully completed and commissioned latest by 2017 but was unduly delayed by President Akufo-Addo and commissioned in 2019. 15. While it is fair to give President Kuffuor the credit for conceptualizing and initiating the project, the chunk of the credit must go to the Mills/Mahama governments which worked with Euroget to secure funding for the project and supervised the construction of the project from ground zero to about 95% completion stage. 16. I am extremely bullish on silver prices long term. There are clearly supply shortages in this market which has caused the increase in the silver prices from $30 last year to over $70 today. The issue is global silver mine supply. It is in decline. All of the mines in the world produced 900 million oz in 2015. In 2026 it will be about 820 million oz. Production is steadily declining. The best mines have been found and depleted. Meanwhile silver demand is still increasing. EVs, solar panels, electronics, Ai chips, etc. I have invested in physical silver, but I also invest in a few silver mining stocks. Most mining stocks are struggling just to maintain current silver production. The key is to find the companies that can increase production. My top silver stock in my portfolio is Aya Gold & Silver (ticker AYASF). The reason why is because this company is one of the few that can seriously increase it's production in the coming years. They are already producing 6 million oz of silver per year from their first mine, Zgounder. They mine at a cost of $20 per oz, they are selling their silver at over $70 per oz. That is over $50 per oz profit margins on 6 million oz. They are building their next mine, Boumadine, which is currently projected to produce 37 million oz AgEq in 2030. So this is a company that will increase revenue and profits by about 6x to 7x even if gold and silver prices remain at current levels. If gold and silver prices increase from here, the upside for AYASF is even higher. Here is a brief clip from an interview last week where the CEO, Benoit La Salle, walks through the numbers and the comparison to other silver miners. Benoit has built multiple mines in his career and he is doing it again with Aya (ticker AYASF). I will leave the link to the full interview in the replies below. This is just a brief clip. I JUST CRUNCHED THE NUMBERS ON TRUMP'S VENEZUELA OIL PLAN And there's a huge problem. Everyone's expecting Venezuela to pump 3M+ barrels per day and crash oil prices. But here's what nobody's talking about: The infrastructure is DEAD. 30 years of socialist mismanagement destroyed everything. PDVSA (Venezuela's state oil company) went from world-class operator to complete disaster. Refineries are rusting. Pipelines are leaking. Equipment is ancient. The realistic cost to fix it? $100-180 BILLION over 10-15 years. Nobody has that kind of money. Especially not for a country that just stole billions from foreign investors. The Exxon Problem: Venezuela owes $60 billion in unpaid arbitration awards. Exxon, ConocoPhillips, and others got their assets seized in 2007. They won in international court. Venezuela never paid. Now Trump's calling oil execs saying "invest in Venezuela." Their response: "Show us rule of law first." Translation: We're not putting billions into a country that might nationalize us again. The Chevron Reality Check: Chevron's the ONLY major still there. They're operating under special US license. Best case scenario with their current setup? Add 200-500k barrels per day. The Chevron Reality Check: Chevron's the ONLY major still there. They're operating under special US license. Best case scenario with their current setup? Add 200-500k barrels per day. That brings Venezuela from 900k bpd to maybe 1.1-1.5M bpd. Still 50% below their historical peak. And that's the OPTIMISTIC scenario. The Orinoco Problem: Venezuela's oil is heavy crude from the Orinoco Belt. It's thick, sulfurous, expensive to extract. Needs special refineries to process. At current oil prices, the margins are horrible. Why would any company invest billions for 8-12% returns when they can get 15-20% in US shale? They wouldn't. And here's the part that kills me: Trump keeps saying he wants $50 oil. But $50 oil DESTROYS the investment case for Venezuelan production. You can't spend $180 billion rebuilding infrastructure if oil prices are suppressed. The economics don't work. So either: 1. Oil stays at $50 and nobody invests in Venezuela 2. Oil rises to $80+ and Venezuela becomes viable but prices don't crash anyway Trump can't have both. So even IF someone could rebuild the infrastructure... Venezuela's political situation is still a mess. Maduro's supposedly leaving. But to who? Maria Corina Machado? Another strongman? Nobody knows what the government will look like in 12 months. Major oil companies don't invest billions into that level of uncertainty. They need 10-year stability guarantees. Venezuela can't provide that. The US Shale Comparison: Meanwhile, Trump's threatening to cut oil prices. US rig count is already falling. Shale producers are pulling back on new drilling. If you artificially suppress oil prices, you REDUCE future supply. Not just in Venezuela. Everywhere. Low prices = less investment = tighter supply later. It's basic economics. The Realistic Timeline: Absolute best case with Chevron's existing operations: - 18-24 months to add 200-500k bpd - Total Venezuelan production hits 1.1-1.5M bpd - Still nowhere near the 3M bpd everyone's expecting That's not a game-changer for global oil markets. My Take on Energy Stocks: I don’t see much downside in oil prices from here (geopolitics providing a floor), and I believe energy stocks remain attractive on the cycle. But Trump's $50 oil talk is exactly that - talk. The gap between political promises and physical reality has never been wider. You can't tweet oil fields into existence. You can't executive order decades of infrastructure neglect away. And you definitely can't rebuild a collapsed petro-state while simultaneously crashing the price of its only export.
