This actually happened. 2022. California Governor Gavin Newsom announces that California has the biggest state budget surplus in American history. Newsom: "No other state in American history has ever experienced a surplus as large as this." Gavin proposed returning some of the money to the people. With everything being so unaffordable in California, people were happy to be getting a few dollars back from the state. The only problem? It was all a lie. The $97.5 billion surplus was a four year projection that Newsom's people based on faulty revenue assumptions. In 2024 Newsom's team quietly put out a revision that said the 2022 projection of a $97.5 billion surplus was off by $165 billion. The biggest surplus in American history was actually a massive deficit. Absolutely on par for Gavin Newsom.

WTTW's Chicago Tonight isn't known as a repository of intellectual honesty, but Steve Daniels was brutally honest. Daniels referred to Mayor Brandon Johnson as a "tool of the union (CTU)" and described the role Johnson is playing in negotiations with the CTU as "not protecting taxpayers." Whoa.

Pretty simple concept. Over 90% of k-12 students in Iowa go to public schools. We should be fully funding our public schools, and should make sure that the richest families who were going to send their kids to private schools anyway aren't using your tax dollars to pay for tuition.
