McDonald’s is rolling out an AI model named Archy who will replace human drive-thru attendants. I wonder how many jobs Archy will take from human beings. This job displacement is happening much quicker than most people expected.

If we refuse to patronize drive-thru's staffed by AI, the company loses money. Losing money is the only thing that bottom line CEO's care and corporate boards care about. They'll be gone after they get the first quarter returns after the switchover.

If I go into a McDonald’s, I use the kiosk. I think it is a better experience than the attendants. I suspect I’ll like Archy in the drive trough better as well.

This is a natural progression in the industry as employers struggle to find employees that “want” to work and balance high labor costs. It’s also a function of the consumer market demanding lower prices. So which do people want, a person in the drive thru or $25 Big Macs?

I am still waiting for these scientific breakthroughs AI promised. As far as I can tell the only breakthrough is a way for corporations to justify laying everyone off.

Yet, In-N-Out Burger has only human drive through attendants, and they kick the $&@?! out of their competitors, including Mc Donald’s, on a per store basis. Replacing human beings is a really dumb and unimaginative way to use AI.

Make min wage $20 an hr and NOBODY wants to work. Mcdonalds is in business to make $$$, not cater to be bunch of people thinking they can work only when they feel like it. Can't get workers?? Automate and laugh on way to bank

Taco Bell has had it for awhile, that way the non English speakers don’t have to worry about talking to you.

This isnt really much job replacement... those kids were only doing 4 hour shifts most likely. This is GOOD for McDonalds and probably gets complacent children to find better positions or make better life decisions in their future anyway. After all, losing a part time shift at McDonalds cant be a negative can it?

Don’t forget that some municipalities instituted new, very high, minimum wage rates. In order to counteract that it is no wonder that Taco Bell and now McDonald’s are implementing AI in the drive through. The human drive through attendants priced themselves out of the market. It was expected.

This is really F’n simple people. If you see this at your local mcdonald’s you stop going. Go to another location with humans, or find some other place with people to eat. STOP REWARDING companies who replace humans. Collectively our wallets have the power…

Who’s gonna buy McDonald’s when nobody has a job? You don’t see many rich people in McDonald’s so if the only jobs that exist are the CEOs who own a company completely controlled by Ai and robots where do they get their money from? Who is your customer when nobody has a job?

They have only themselves to blame. AI was the answer when unskilled labor started demanding $15/hr now $30/hr.

This is a result of minimum wage and ESL drive-thru attendants that can't speak the language properly. I'm all for this. If you do a job that can be replaced by a machine, it's best to STFU about demanding a "living wage" or "income equality". I think I'll be buying some MCD

While I understand the "losing jobs to AI" aspect, hear me out. The 3 McDonald's 30 miles away from me (all rural) aren't employing kids during the summer. They go through employees like rolls of toilet paper. Only the manager remains the same. Training is minimal and you have on a 50/50 chance your drive-thru order will be correct. Knowing this, Archy might increase business and customer satisfaction.

Archy I’m sure we’ll do a far better job than the sullen, resentful, illiterate blacks I usually have to deal with.

AI isn't replacing jobs someday it's replacing them now.

It will probably get the order right more often than humans lol.

These companies are going to “AI” itself into bankruptcy And guess what WHO CARES

And our government is helping fund and push for our replacements using the "need to win the AI race" as their reasoning. I hope they also start to plan for and push for some type of UBI. Otherwise I do not see how many people will avoid extreme 3rd world type poverty right here in America within as soon as a few years from now. Elon is correct about the need to plan for these things. It is imperative and should be common sense. Unfortunately replacing our jobs seems to be happening a lot faster than planning for an incoming financial crisis.

Will there still be someone there to tell me to pull up to parking spot 4 and make me wait 5 minutes so someone can bring out my order minus the sauces and 1 order of fries and make me have to go in and get the stinky eye from some teenager?

It's called eutopia. No one will work ai and robots will solve the world problems all you'll have to do is sit back collect free money, everything will be cheap. Money will become useless, unless you're trying to become the first so called trillionare.

Say 1 million stores, some at the check lane every hour it is open, say 8am till midnight or 16hrs that would be 16 million hrs, or 2 million people. Or 2+ people per store.

Unless you want to consume human children don’t eat there.

It'll be a short-lived experiment. The moment a prompt engineer goes through the line and tricks the AI into paying them to eat for free, the experiment will end. AI is good, but it's not ready for replacing humans. Anyone that thinks otherwise is kidding themselves.

It was inevitable, but the fighting for the 20 dollar minimum wage and benefits supercharged the implementation.

McDonald’s testing that at scale would force a lot of locations to rethink staffing fast voice order, window handoff, labor mix… that’s where the pressure lands first

It’s the fault of democrats pushing for higher minimum wage. As you can see the prices are unsustainable and the only way to bring them down or keep them from rising more is automation. Joe many factory jobs were replaced by machines? How many ditch diggers were replaced by your skid steer?
