Today, I addressed representatives of partner countries and international organizations in Ukraine, as well as our diplomats. We have specific intelligence data indicating that Russia not only wants to disrupt the Peace Summit, but also has a specific plan for how to do so, including how to reduce the number of participating countries and how to act in order to thwart peace efforts for even longer. To counter this, we must work together, in unity, to achieve a just peace. We are all equally interested in forcing Russia to make peace and adhere to international law. The world majority can ensure this. The Global Peace Summit in Switzerland provides us with a real opportunity to achieve just peace and restore full force to international law. We are working together to focus the world's power on bringing a just peace to Ukraine.

US Ambassador to NATO Matt Whitaker: "We expect productive talks in Geneva, but it's going to take both sides to come up with a way they can agree on to end this war. The bloodbath needs to stop. The trickiest and toughest issue is territories." It’s not territories that are on the way of peace. Russia wants to erase Ukraine as an independent state. The biggest obstacle to peace is the lack of sufficient pressure on the aggressor. Because of this, they believe they can continue the war while feigning interest in peace through unrealistic demands.

Ukraine strikes back with precise, targeted attacks, and unlike Russia, we know exactly what we aim to achieve. Peace, of course. We are not waging war for the sake of war, as Russia does. Even Hamas shows deal-making acumen, but not Putin. For now. Together with our partners, we are creating the conditions to compel Russia to peace. And it will happen. We support all global diplomatic efforts aimed at achieving peace in the Middle East, and we strongly expect that just pressure on Russia will bring peace to Ukraine and to our entire region as well. It is important that the leadership of the United States continue to be effective.

Of course, we will not give Russia awards for what it has done. The Ukrainian people deserve peace. But all partners must understand what a dignified peace is. We are closer to peace than ever during the war, but at the same time we cannot be sure whether Russia is ready for peace. Peace is most often a compromise, and we must prepare for the fact that all parts of a peace agreement will likely not meet our sense of justice. However, we will do everything we can to ensure that Ukraine’s independence, sovereignty, and territorial integrity are preserved. Ukraine is part of a free and democratic Europe now and in the future. We will continue to support Ukraine, we will not tire, and together with our allies we will ensure that Russia will never again attack its neighbor.
