After Rory McIlroy’s comments about Bryson DeChambeau at The Open, Scottie Scheffler was asked ahead of the 3M Open if he thinks rivalries are good for golf: “I think golf's different in a sense of a lot of other sports because my biggest rival week in and week out is the golf course that we're playing. I mean, I could never stop somebody from doing anything in golf. Back to the first question that you asked when I first came up here when the end of basketball when it gets to that point, you know. Scottie Scheffler has the chance to win the career grand slam at the US Open this week. Ahead of the championship he was asked what it would mean for the sport if he were to do it: “That's a good question. I think it would definitely bring more eyeballs to the sport, which is always a good thing. I think golf is a great game. I think it's something that everybody should have a chance to be introduced to. I think you learn a lot about yourself. I think you learn a lot of life lessons through the game of golf. “Some of my best friends in the whole world I know just from playing golf and playing golf with them and growing up with those types of guys. Since Covid, golf has become increasingly more mainstream. Scottie Scheffler was asked ahead of the Travelers Championship how he feels about the impact it’s had on the game: “Yeah, I think it's great for golf to become more mainstream. I think you see, especially since COVID, there's been a tremendous growth in the amount of people that are playing golf. “I think it's the greatest game in the world. You learn a lot about life. I met some of my best friends in the whole world playing golf. So for people getting involved in the sport I think is tremendous. “Like I said, getting to spend four hours with somebody outside hanging out playing a game is something that's pretty rare in the busyness I think that we live in today. So getting out taking some time with your buddies and going to play golf is one of the most fun things you can do. Especially when you start playing, you learn a lot about life and how to handle things and it's a challenging game as well, so overall I think it's just a great sport for anybody to get involved in.” PGA TOUR TravelersChamp

Scottie Scheffler explains why playing too many events in a row can mentally drain players and referred to Tiger Woods always playing a limited schedule: “I think when you look at this sport it's unique in a sense of like the amount of time we spend in front of people throughout a week. Like for me to play four days of tournament golf, from the moment I step out on to the driving range if we're playing at a four hour pace that's over five hours, five and a half hours if you include this part of my day, where we're in front of people. And doing that four days in a row in a mental sport I think can take a toll on you. “I think that's why you see a guy like Tiger can only play so many events because I think mentally the challenge of just being in front of people for that long and being on and what it takes in toward to compete week in week out takes a lot out of you mentally. So for me playing more than three weeks in a row is extraordinarily difficult. I can't handle much more than that. “When you look at the season now I think it, for family time it's great to have an off-season as well, just for us for me to be able to be at home with my family is important. As far as the cadence goes, yeah, I definitely have a cadence that I prefer when it comes to scheduling and there are definitely risks cramming a bunch of tournaments into little windows just because it's hard to play that many tournaments in a row. It's hard to be on for that many times. It's hard to get yelled at that many times in a row throughout a round of golf. It just is. Ludvig Aberg gives a refreshingly honest assessment of his round today: “Yeah, obviously really disappointed. I felt like I was striking it okay early on. Got away with a few things, especially No. 4, kind of left miss. “But overall pleased with the week. Obviously today the back nine was not good, but that's the way it goes sometimes.” “It got away from me quick there (on 11 and 12). Yeah, it was just poor swings. I felt like I've had that sort of 7-wood right miss a few times this week, on No. 4 especially twice, and it came up on 11 as well. “Then tried to press a little bit on 12, hitting driver, where sometimes you can play 3-wood a little short of that bunker. “Yeah, obviously really disappointed. I would have loved to be standing where Cameron is standing right now. But overall I still felt like I saw some nice things in my game this beak.” He then went on to talk about the positives he can take away from this week: “I think obviously the biggest thing that I take away is that I feel like I'm playing nice golf. I'm playing golf to the point where I feel like I can contend in big tournaments. “Obviously a good finish last week and still a top-5 finish this week. Max Homa says he doesn’t agree with the ruling on Bryson DeChambeau yesterday and says he knows Bryson would “never cheat the game of golf”: “I'm not really, I guess, wanting to be able to decide on fair, because they're the rules officials. I only saw one angle, and in my opinion I didn't agree with the ruling. I know there's another angle that -- side on, it's always hard to tell if it improves anything. “All I know is I've known Bryson for a very long time, and he's an interesting human at times, but I know he would never cheat the game of golf. I don't really love how it happened. It's not that the R&A said that he did it intentionally, but that rule as a professional golfer feels like it's written inherently to protect against people trying to improve their lie. So I just hope that people don't have that -- that doesn't create a narrative because I don't believe that of him. “But again, I'm not going to sit here -- it's really hard to tell anything. So yeah, that one is not up for me to judge. But it's a shame how that ruling feels because it seems like -- we were talking about it this morning. It's like you would try to call somebody out in junior golf because you could tell they were stomping around the ball. It didn't look like that to me. But that's not up to me. NCAA Champion Michael La Sasso is now the youngest player on LIV Golf after signing for Phil Mickelson’s HyFlyers GC during the off season. He explained his decision to join the league ahead of the season opener in Riyadh: “One of the things that went into my decision, when I was 10 years old starting to play golf, like, the goal for me was to play professional golf. Having people that have been very well-known in the golf space and are so experienced, and to be able to be a part of a team that's with Phil, somebody that's had so much experience, I feel like he'll be able to answer any question that I throw at him, to have the ability to be able to ask somebody that on a daily basis, that played a very big part in it for me because not every 21-year-old has the opportunity to be able to ask questions to those people. So that was a big factor for me. “I think so far, I'm so grateful that I made the decision, and I am very happy to be here.” Michael also says that Caleb Surratt, who joined Jon Rahm’s LIV Golf team for the 2024 season, had an impact on his decision too: “So, I've had a very good relationship with Caleb Surratt. Not many people know this, but he was committed to NC State at the same time I was. He's from North Carolina, I'm from North Carolina. Growing up, I played a lot of golf with him, and we were very close. “I remember when he first came here, he stayed at my house because he was getting a swing lesson from -- we go to the same instructor. Everything that he had to say, it made me excited. From a very early start, hearing about LIV and every perk that it had and hearing him talk so highly about it, the fact that I actually had an opportunity to come out here and play, and I asked him a bunch of questions and kind of from the start, everything that he had to say and people that I talked to, everything was so, so good.” He went on to say about the prospect of playing team golf: “I think that makes the transition a little bit easier. I feel like my golf has kind of taken off when I've been in a team environment. For me, having a team around me was very appealing. “I've played good golf as a team. I like the camaraderie, kind of the friendly banter that goes back and forth between the guys. For me to have the opportunity to come play on a team environment for a professional career, I think that's the coolest thing ever.” This is Michael’s rookie season as a pro after signing for HyFlyers GC straight out of college. Normally, it’s a difficult transition for young players to make, but Michael isn’t short of confidence and has some lofty goals: “I've talked with a bunch of people on the team. I know Phil is very big on having a team win and an individual win. Now being the youngest player in the league, I'd kind of like to come in and make a good noise, and I would like to win a couple times. I would like to see the team win for sure, as a team event. I've been struggling since 2021" And obviously I had a couple surgeries then and other issues came with it the years after. And it was quite disappointing for me that playing out there on the LIV Golf league I could never really perform, because I could never really practice, because I was always hurt. I needed to -- obviously we all need to play the tournaments, and I didn't really have enough time and enough rest in between events to rest, to have a fully rest. You looked for content and ways to grow in the community and I genuinely wanted to help. You could've asked ANYONE but chose to ask me. I sat there and gave you advice because I was real enough to. I live in your mind rent free. Instead of worrying about another grown ass person... worry about yourself. I try to tell people this is what blocks people's blessings. Being negative & lying. Bryson DeChambeau hosted a clinic today at the International Series India for hundreds of Indian golf fans of all ages. He said about his motivation to travel to the country and play at DLF Golf and Country Club this week: “The ability for golf as really a young sport, but changing from an older sport into a young sport to showcase what golf can mean for the future generations of India. That's always inspired me. My mission in the game of golf is to first off, inspire, entertain, and a subtle part of it is educate as well. “Educate, entertain, inspire is my main three principles of why I play the game of golf. “I think this is an amazing opportunity for all of golf to come together and see what India can truly produce for the world. And it's a growing economy, it's a growing population that needs golf. Bryson DeChambeau hosted a clinic today at the International Series India for hundreds of Indian golf fans of all ages. He said about his motivation to travel to the country and play at DLF Golf and Country Club this week: “The ability for golf as really a young sport, but changing from an older sport into a young sport to showcase what golf can mean for the future generations of India. That's always inspired me. My mission in the game of golf is to first off, inspire, entertain, and a subtle part of it is educate as well. “Educate, entertain, inspire is my main three principles of why I play the game of golf. “I think this is an amazing opportunity for all of golf to come together and see what India can truly produce for the world. And it's a growing economy, it's a growing population that needs golf. I Gave a Stranger A Golf Lesson 🏌️‍♂️ I was travelling in Denver a couple of weeks ago and decided to go for a morning run As I ran past this guy in the street, he called back and said “No way! Is that you Andy from Me and My Golf”. Of course, I stopped and chatted for a while. This is one of our favourite things about what we do! I asked him to send me some swings through and I would give him some help. It was clear to me that Nick wasn’t really shifting his weight to his lead leg in the downswing. This always leads to lack of compression with irons and often some duff shots ⛳️ If you struggle with this, make sure you get to that impact line as early as possible. Also, if you ever see us in the street or at a golf event, please say hi! You never know, we might even do the same for you. #golflesson #golf

Anthony Kim spoke about his journey after a third round 68 to be solo 3rd at LIV Golf Adelaide: “It's been a hell of a week. Obviously not having a visa to get into this country was the start. I've worked hard, and I knew this day would come at some point. Obviously Bryson is at 20-something under or whatever he is, and he's got a huge lead, but I'm at least putting myself where I feel like I belong, and the practice is paying off.” He then spoke about whether he believed he’d be in this position when he joined the league 2 years ago: “It was always the goal to be in the final group, giving yourself a chance to win a golf tournament, or else I wouldn't have been practicing and playing on this league. But if you'd have asked me three years ago, I would have told you you were on drugs.” Then he was asked about breaking through: “I don't care if it's tough, if it's easy. Ex US Army Captain Marcus Plunkett, who served in Afghanistan, came through a 36 hole qualifier to make it to The Open, his major debut. Now after rounds of 70 and 71 he is currently inside the projected cut line. After the round, he explained his love of golf: “I grew up playing it as a kid. It's one of the few things that I found that makes me feel alive. When I'm playing competitive golf, especially here at The Open, I am right there in the moment. “I think that's what keeps calling me back to try to get better every day.” This is an exceptional performance from Marcus in his first major.
