Cleetus McFarland will run double duty this weekend at Michigan, driving in both the ARCA & Craftsman Truck Series races. Something that stuck with me from a recent interview with Ty Dillon about Cleetus and how raw he is: "He's not like a late model kid that's ran thousands of races when he was 14, 15, 16. He's learning how to race, in so many ways, at the highest level." Ty mentioned the effect that Cleetus' O'Reilly experience has had on his confidence to go out and perform in his ARCA car, which everyone saw when he came about a straightaway away from winning Talladega. The growth at that level, especially given Cleetus had very little if any background in racing, has been noticeable. "I think he is making leaps and bounds of growth in what he's doing. And he loves the ARCA series, and I think he's looking to do more there in the future." (This interview was originally recorded on May 12. It has been repackaged slightly from its originally planned release leading up to Nashville.)

Alabama is going for 3 in a row, but they 100% need to beat their rival away from home in the Iron Bowl. What results is the sports’ most memorable/exciting moment of the 21st Century. Alabama was eliminated and their reign ended. Auburn made it to the national title game. Today, both teams would know they were in the playoffs regardless of the outcome, and this iconic moment becomes more comedic than significant. Oh no. Does someone wanna tell these undersized guys throwing ~100 that they need to “get into their pec”. I’m thinking they’re not deep enough! If a right handed throw is ultimately just a rotation to the left, all the “pec stretch” is is just a reflection of the upper half delaying in sequence (but still ultimately turning the same way). Let’s get first things first, there’s way more things going on in the shoulder girdle than the pecs— and this elastic energy transfer is occurring through the entire system (from the trunk all the way through the shoulder girdle). The ‘stretch’ you’re seeing aesthetically is largely based on relative joint stiffness, tissue quality, the ability to move proximal to distal, and the timing of rotation. Honestly, it wouldn’t be a bad thing if we brought back a little flat arm syndrome.
